Change in statistics count?

    Hello!

We have 2 blogs working under your service:
    http://indolinkenglish.wordpress.com/
    http://indolinkspanish.wordpress.com/

We monitor the visit statistics monthly, but last month we noticed some unexpected behavior. The visits on both blogs dropped quite drastically. There have been fluctuations over the time, but this drop seemed bigger than any. I have noticed that you have changed the way you display the statistics on the website, and we were wondering if there were also any change on the way you count the visits. Or if, otherwise, we could have been penalized for something, turning into the noted visit drop.

Of course, it may only have been a coincidence, and this month fewer people visit us… only chance, but we wanted to make sure there is no other reason.

Hope you can help us, thank you in advance!
    Best regards!

    Hello!

We haven’t changed anything in how we’re tracking stats. The only thing I can see by looking through your site’s stats is that you’ve had a drop in referrals to your website from Google searches. Obviously, that is something that we don’t have any control over.

I hope that clarifies things! Let us know if we can help with anything else.

    Hello again!

    Thanks for the answer.

Can you tell me exactly what stats you check to see that the Google searches referrals have dropped? Do you have any idea why that could be happening? I understand you can’t control that, only ask if you may point me in some direction to finding a solution (a reason at least for that to happen) :-)

This month the visits have grown a little bit, but are still far from the usual values that we used to have.

You can go to your stats and check each date – there’s a list of referral links listed under the stats for each day:

I looked through a few days and saw the drop in Google referrals.

As far as why – I don’t have any way to know why they dropped off. That’s the nature of the internet!

We did have an article on the WordPress.com blog recently about SEO – you might want to read and see if there’s anything there that might be useful for you:

    I hope that clarifies things!

Also Google and other search engines are constantly “adjusting” the way search results come up and how sites are evaluated. Those “adjustments” will affect how your site is listed – maybe higher maybe lower

Recently some changes were made in the image search area and many sites here went down. A year ago other changes seem to have been made and some sites went up.

It is a bit of a race in some ways as people try and figure out how to game the system to rank higher and search engines try to combat fake SEO systems

Thanks a lot both of you, your answers were most helpful.

Let’s just wait the next “adjustment” will benefit us :-)
