@rachelmatos
You are posting to the wrong support forum. We do NOT provide support on this forum for wordpress.ORG installs like yours. You must post to the correct forum for your software and it’s here > http://wordpress.ORG/support/For clarity read the sticky post at the head of this forum please > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-read-me-first-before-posting?replies=1

You’re welcome. The key to knowing which forum to post to is to click the link in the footer of your blog. It states “powered by WordPress” and when you click it you arrive here http://wordpress.ORG

And here’s how to replace the header image. It’ll also hide the navigation links properly, rather than just changing them to be all white. You’ll need to add in the URL and modify the height until it fits the new image:
#branding {overflow:hidden;} #branding img, #access {display:none;} #masthead {background:url("IMG_URL") bottom left no-repeat; height:250px;} -
How do I change the color of the blog title above the header and title in the footer (which are currently black) in Twenty Ten? And is it possible to change the height of the header image?
I’m at http://theornaments.wordpress.com
Thank you, Sharon

@paulnjulia: Hi. You have a self-hosted WordPress.ORG blog and are in the wrong forum. Please ask your question on http://wordpress.org/support
You are currently in a WordPress.COM forum and our answers will not apply to your situation. Thanks and I hope you find a solution to your problem soon.

Oh yes, and how do I get the “home” and “about” links to show a color, like a gray, after I have removed the black menu bar as described above

And one more question. Why are some people using wordpress.org and some, like myself, wordpress.com? Can one achieve the same visual and functional blog result with either?
I am very new to this.

In the order you asked these code snippets will change the blog title colour in both places, replace your header image with one that is taller (you need to add in the new URL and manually change the height to something that fits, I’d recommend your new image height plus 50 pixels) and change the navigation text colour to grey. Finally here is a link to the support page on the differences between the COM and ORG versions of wordpress.
#site-title a, #site-info a {color:#f00;} #branding {background:url("URL") bottom left no-repeat; padding-bottom:350px;} #branding img {display:none;} #masthead #access a {color:#888;} -

Oops. I’m afraid that now I can’t get the image header to show. that you for your help. http//theornaments.wordpress.com

Yes, that code will remove the original header image. To add a header image that is a different size from the original involes hiding the original and adding the new image in the CSS code. This is unavoidable I am afraid. Simply add the new image to your media library and copy the image URL into the code I gave you before.

My mistake. I was feeling a bit protective since this is not live yet, but there’s no sensitive content here.

@wendewhitman, sorry, you need to head over to http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG are supported.
These forums are for those hosted here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service and things here work differently.
If you do not know the difference, see this support document: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ .
