change my theme

  Hi! first off, I love using WordPress for my blog. But I want to customize it to make it more appealing and change up the way I’m using it. Two things I would like to do:

  1. Have the picture on the main page on the blog rotate; meaning I want it to change like a slideshow. Is that possible? Or would I have a slideshow in a separate widget off to the side?

  2. I want to have a blog with a main title, then smaller sub-titles below for people to access different pages of the blog, as opposed to just scrolling down for stories. Is this possible? Alternatively, something like the Boardwalk theme, that has panels with a different picture in each. That would be very cool if I could do that and use each panel as a “section” for my blog.

  Mind is racing with ideas so help?! :)

  Both are possible! The widget option is available for any theme with a sidebar:

  Alternatively, you could select a theme that offers a slider like the ones listed here:

  http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/post-slider/

  Hmm…I’m trying to think here. We don’t have any themes that have this feature built in. By default, the blog page would display your most recent posts in a list like usual. In order to create the look you want, you would need to manually create it by typing the categories into a page. Then, you could link the actual category to the category page:

  http://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/

  It’s a bit of a hack as it would require you to manually update the page each time. It wouldn’t be automatically updated when you create a new topic/category.
