Change name and url for old site into name and url of new site

    I have a site (Blog A). I wanted a new name and url, so I created a brand new site (Blog B), which is empty.
    I was going to import all the posts from Blog A into Blog B, but then I realized I could just change the name and url of Blog A into Blog B – great! BUT, since I’ve created Blog B, it won’t allow me to change Blog A into Blog B, since that name and url are taken – by me. ARGH. How can I delete Blog B, so I can change Blog A into Blog B?
    I hope this isn’t as confusing as it sounds…

    To recap:

    I have awholelottabiota.wordpress.com
    I want it to be alottabiota.wordpress.com, which I’ve just created.
    But, now I can’t change awholelottabiota into alottabiota because it already exists…
    So how do I delete alottabiota, so I can change awholelottabiota into alottabiota.

    Whew.

    Hi there,

    Ok, so it sounds like you have two sites:

    awholelottabiota.wordpress.com — your old site

    alottabiota.wordpress.com — your new site

    BUT, since I’ve created Blog B, it won’t allow me to change Blog A into Blog B, since that name and url are taken – by me. ARGH.

    Yes that’s correct. Once it a WordPress.com address is in use, it can’t be reused.

    If you wish to use alottabiota.wordpress.com instead, you will need to export the content from awholelottabiota.wordpress.com to alottabiota.wordpress.com.

    These instructions shows you explain how to export your content:

    And these instructions explain how to import it into your new site:

    Please don’t delete the site you no longer need until you are happy with the new site :)

    Hi again,
    Something’s not working, and I’d love some more help.
    I’ve Exported All , and downloaded the zip file.

    When I try to Import to the new site (alottabiota), I get this error message: This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number.

    However, the Import support page states that “For the import to work, you’ll need a valid .xml file”, which mine is.

    Any thoughts on what I’m doing wrong? Please and thanks!
