    Hello @tmsatchell,
Please proved the URL you are trying to change the name-servers of.
Also, did you register the domain from WordPress or from some other registrar?

You can also provide details about the task you are trying to accomplish(like, trying to map your domain to your wordpress.com site, or something else…), this will help us provide you with a more appropriate answer.

    Thanks!

    sorry. the url is
    caribbeangirltravels.com

I initially had a site with wordpress.com and deleted it. I am trying to transfer the site to inmotion

  • Unknown's avatar

I see that you have registered https://caribbeangirltravels.com/, via WordPress and it is currently using the WordPress name-server values:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

So to point this domain to another host(inmotion) you have to ask your hosting provider(in your case it is inmotion) to provide their name-server values and then you have to add those values to your domain, by following the instructions given here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-name-servers/

More information on moving domains to another host here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/

    Hope this helps :)

so because I deleted the website, I’m unable to click on domain to change the name server. is there any other way? when i log in, it states i have no word press pages. When I try to start a new page it states the page is already mapped to a word press site.

Okay, try accessing the domain manager by using this link: https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/, if it does not work you will need staff assistance to change the name-server values.

So in that case what you can do is tag this question with the modlook tag on the Tags section of the sidebar, so that it get the staff’s attention.

If you wish to reach the moderator staff directly for your future questions, just add the modlook tag in the Tags section.

Read about the modlook tag here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question

    You’re welcome.
Not just have some coffee and patience as someone from the WordPress staff will be here to rescue you soon.

    Have a nice day! :)

  • Hi there,

You are unable to change the name servers for the domain, caribbeangirltravels.com, because you cancelled the domain about 20 minutes before starting this thread. If you cancel a domain it means you don’t own it any more. You can’t make changes to something you don’t own.

That domain will not be released until after it expires in March next year, so if you still want to use it the only way is if I restore it to your account. Then you can point it to another provider once it’s active again. Please confirm if I should do this.

In order to access the domain’s settings it’s necessary for the domain to be connected to a free WordPress.com site as well. As you’ve deleted your WordPress.com site, I’ll need you to create a new free site before I can restore the domain. You can create a new site via this link:

    https://wordpress.com/start/site/

As I’m totally new to this, I didn’t know what I was doing hence why I’m asking for help. If I knew, I wouldn’t have cancelled it.
But, yes please restore the account so that I can access the domain.
This maybe a stupid question, but again I’m new…can I start a new free site with the same “caribbeangirltravels.com” or do I need to change the name. If I change the name, will I still be able to access the domain for my previous website.
    Thanks in advance

  • Okay, I’ve restored your domain and connected it to the new site in your account.

can I start a new free site with the same “caribbeangirltravels.com” or do I need to change the name. If I change the name, will I still be able to access the domain for my previous website.

You can use your domain with any site you want, yes. All you need is a new free address – the one you deleted cannot be used again – and then I can move the domain over for you.

If you want to use the domain with a site in the thenewsatchell account rather than the tmsatchell account, you can do that as well. In that case, first follow the instructions below to transfer the domain to the thenewsatchell account, and then reply here as that user and tell me to what site you want the domain to be connected.

Transfer a Domain to Another WordPress.com Account

Ok, thank you so much for your help. I think this is the last question.
So I’ve routed the domain to the new name server. Do I need to keep the word press account active to keep the domain? Or because it routed somewhere else, I am now free to cancel this account.

  • We are still your domain provider. You are paying inmotionhosting.com for hosting your site, i.e. for space on their servers for your site to be online, but your domain registration is with us.

Once you’ve owned the domain for 60 days you can transfer the domain away from us, to inmotionhosting.com if they accept domain transfers, or to any other domain provider if you wish, but for now you will need to keep the upgrade active with us as well. If you cancel the domain again on our side, your site will stop working as you will no longer own the domain.
