I am considering ganging my domain to wordpress together with my email address. would I be able to keep them? how long would the change take?

Yes, WordPress.com can be the host for your domain name and/or your web site. In addition, you can purchase G Suite (Google) email via WordPress.com as well to keep all of the management in one place.
In general, when changing a domain name registrar, the process could take up to 48 hours. In my experience, a .com domain name can be process (the official word is propagated) within an hour.

Just to clarify here, it’s not possible to transfer your domain registration to WordPress.com, so you won’t be changing your registrar.
You can, however, change your hosting to us via the domain mapping upgrade, which means your domain stays registered at the current provider, but you point the domain to us so it shows your WordPress.com site. You’ll need to buy a paid plan to add the domain mapping upgrade:

We do not provide email hosting, but if you already have an email hosting account somewhere else, you can connect it to your domain once you have the domain mapped to us, and your email will keep on working as before.
