  I have a domain name through host gator and want to change my WordPress domain name to the new host gator one… is that possible?

  You should be able to use the domain here at WordPress.com by upgrading to a WordPress.com plan on your site (Personal, Premium, Business, or eCommerce.) then add a domain connection to use your domain here.
