Change of editor
-
You have said that there are 3 editors, the block, the classic and the nameless. You are throwing out the nameless. Which do I have? I quote:
‘There are currently three editors available on WP.com. The older editor that we’re retiring looks like this: https://a.cl.ly/L1u7ldwB The two editors that will remain are the block editor which looks like this: https://a.cl.ly/BluZe4w5 and the classic editor, which looks like this: https://a.cl.ly/L1u7ldNK’
I cannot find any of these three URL’s anywhere on any editor of mine.
Comments on your blog show that the block editor is very unpopular, so I do not want to waste a lot of mental effort trying to learn it.
Then you show pictures and I suddenly noticed that they are all visual editors, which I have used extremely rarely. I use the HTML editor.
1. Which of the three am I using now? How can I find out?
2. Will I be able to continue to use the HTML editor or are you throwing that out too?
3. If I can, can I continue to use it as the default, or do I have to go every time to the bock editor and climb out of it?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi There,
This page will clarify most of your querys:
https://wordpress.com/support/editors/This is the guide to use the classic editor:
https://wordpress.com/support/visual-editor/And you can always use the html editor by selecting the text option in the classic editor.

Thank you, the first link gave a lot of help — it is highly complicated but I will have to work through it and mark the one I want. The trouble is that they use the name `Word Press Editor’ which is confusing – which one? It seems that the one I have been using is not the classic but the one they are throwing out.
However it seems I can edit HTML in the classic editor.
I have not tried the second link as I am not interested in the visual.
The third link should help me, I will have to learn.
But my third question is unanswered.
Thanks again. -
Additional reply to adars.
No, the third link you gave is part of the first one and is how to edit in the block editor not the classic! I’ll find it somewhere but am all confused at present. -
Hi there,
If I can, can I continue to use it as the default, or do I have to go every time to the bock editor and climb out of it?
The new Block editor will be the default editor for the WordPress.com interface. If you use the WP Admin dashboard, then you can keep using the Classic editor. If you prefer the WordPress.com interface, then you use the Classic block within the new editor. You can find more information here:

Thank you, your post helps (but the link does not).
What I meant by the default was: Can I set it so that pressing on edit takes it directly into the HTML? (On the present system it used to go into the visual but I set it to go direct into the HTML.) Or do I have to each time go into the block editor, then change it to classic, then change the visual into HTML? (Going into WPadmin each time is a long way round.) Never mind, I’ll have to wait and see what happens. Like millions of others, as can be seen by members’ comments, I received a very nasty shock, but am slowly recovering. Thanks again. -
Can I set it so that pressing on edit takes it directly into the HTML?
That is not possible, no. If you use WP-Admin directly, that mode selection persists from one session to the next, but the block editor does not, nor does the classic block in that editor.
