Change of Hosting Provider, detaching domain not possible
-
Hi there,
Guess I am not the first one but after scanning the entries my question was not answered.
I registered my domain yogamand.de with Ionos, Germany and connected it to my wordpress.com site.
At the beginning of this year I changed the hosting provider to Ionos, detached the domain yogamand.de from wordpress.com (which seems not to have worked) before I deleted the entire page. I also updated the entry with my registrar Ionos to redirect the domain to yogamand.com.
It still doesn’t work. The domain yogamand.de always leads to a so-called „parking page“ of wordpress.com.
Since the domain is not shown in my wordpress account I have no way to detach the domain.
What are my options to reclaim the domain without having to purchase a plan with wordpress.com? Would it help to delete my WordPress account?
Thanks for your support.

Hi @yogamand,
I’d be happy to look into this with you!
Currently, the domain isn’t attached to your WordPress.com account, but the name servers for your domain are pointing to WordPress.com.
To change this, you’ll want to update your name servers based on your website’s host, which you can do by contacting your registrar.
Please let us know if you have any questions on this! -
Hi Beth,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I reset the DNS-settings with my registrar to factory settings a while ago but it didn’t do the trick.
I will contact Ionos and will ask to look into the DNS-entries.

Hi Beth,
After the call with the host/registrar of my website and domains there is no entry whatsoever in the name servers. They will have a deeper look into it but I kindly ask to check my original webspace URL https://yogamand.wordpress.com/ for any residual entries connected to yogamand.de.
Your help is very much appreciated.

Hello, @yogamand!
I just checked your account and confirmed, as @cailebeth mentioned earlier, that your domain is not currently connected to your previous WordPress.com site. The issue you’re seeing is happening because your domain is still using WordPress.com name servers and A records. To fix this, you’ll need to update the name servers and A records at your domain registrar with the DNS records provided by your new host. This will make sure your domain no longer points to WordPress.com.
Please let us know if you have any questions or need any extra help. We’ll be happy to help you further.
