Change of theme – problems with homepage and navigation
-
I have recently changed the theme of my blog and now I have a couple of problems:
1. When I access my homepage from the pages tab it doesn’t display the current version of the homepage (which I have edited on the Editor beta), but a half-complete version of the old one.
2. Navigation doesn’t work properly. When I click on the about and contact button in the navigation, despite having the correct links to the respective pages, it always lands on the homepage.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks

Hi,
2. Navigation doesn’t work properly. When I click on the about and contact button in the navigation, despite having the correct links to the respective pages, it always lands on the homepage.
Are you referring to the site https://poptravelsbyfede.wordpress.com? The fact that clicking the “Contact” menu item results in an URL change, but doesn’t produce a move from the homepage suggests to me that the “Contact” page is either nonexistent or unpublished (draft status). I don’t find an “About” link in the nav menu.
1. When I access my homepage from the pages tab it doesn’t display the current version of the homepage (which I have edited on the Editor beta), but a half-complete version of the old one.
I don’t know what might producing this result. Is the page edited in Editor beta for use as the new homepage the same page that’s been previously set as the homepage? Let me call for staff attention regarding this question. Staff will respond here.

Hi there,
1. When I access my homepage from the pages tab, it doesn’t display the current version of the homepage (which I have edited on the Editor beta), but a half-complete version of the old one.
One thing to be aware of is that many different pages use the default “Page Template” as their starting point. That is why when you edit the template directly, those changes are seen on every individual page that uses that template.
Essentially this template is usually left blank so that every page you create (home, about, contact, etc.) can display their contents within that blank starter template. In other words, you would not edit this template unless you wanted to include something that is shown on all pages on the site.
After taking a closer look at your site, however, it appears that you have edited your page template so that it can no longer display the contents of other pages but instead shows only the homepage layout you created directly within the template: https://wordpress.com/site-editor/poptravelsbyfede.wordpress.com.
This is why the content you see here does not display on your homepage: https://poptravelsbyfede.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=33&action=edit.
This is also why your About page (and other site pages) use a copy of your homepage layout: https://poptravelsbyfede.wordpress.com/about/.
To resolve this issue, here is what I recommend:
- Copy the blocks you have in your page template now, which you can do by clicking on the “…” option in the upper right corner, and then choose the option to copy all blocks
- Paste these blocks into the Homepage you have created here. You can add them to content that is there already or delete that content and replace it with the content from the template.
- Next, you can go here and reset your page template. To do that, look for the “…” icon to the right of the Page Template in the list, and in the dropdown, choose the option to reset.
This will allow your page template to function correctly, and then you should also see the correct content on your homepage, about page, etc.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
