I messed up. In trying to change the name of the URL to a new domain name, I lost all of my content to paul-leblond.xyz. Is there a way to re-capture it or do I have to start all over?

    Self-declared URL: paul-lerblond.xyz
    Jetpack: Unknown
    WP.com: Unknown

    Hello there!

If you change your site URL in your WordPress settings without first purchasing the new domain and configuring it with your hosting provider, it will result in the error you are currently experiencing. To resolve this issue, I recommend contacting your hosting provider for assistance. Since they host your site’s files, they have the necessary access and expertise to help you rectify this problem. They can also assist you with updating your domain if you still wish to make changes.

In case you encounter any difficulties in the future, it is advisable to seek guidance from your hosting provider or the WordPress.org community. They can provide further assistance and support through the following forum:

I purchased the new domain “sunriseholistic.life” and had purchased paul-leblond.xyz through GoDaddy but used WordPress to host the site. I made the mistake in the admin and when you click on either domain, it comes up 404…

  • Hi there,

Apologies, but we can’t help with your issue directly because we don’t host your site on our WordPress.com managed hosting.

To explain, we are a fully managed hosting provider and use a custom server environment that is optimized for WordPress, provides built-in security and performance improvements, as well as in-house support for your site questions. You can learn more about the performance and security benefits of our managed hosting here: https://wordpress.com/hosting/

Because of the way we’ve optimized our service, we also use a customized version of WordPress that is different (under the hood) from what you use at GoDaddy. As a result, we do not have access to your site and are not familiar with the source of your issue. It sounds like you made a URL change in your WordPress settings, but if you are able to set it back to the original address, you will be able to reconnect and see the content hosted with GoDaddy. WE use a different method for changing your site address on WordPress.com, so we can’t walk you through how to do that on your site.

You definitely have the option to move your site to us so we can provide in-house help, and we offer a migration plugin that will help you move your site to our managed hosting in just a few clicks.

Unfortunately though, as it stands now, we are not able to help since it is hosted elsewhere. The good news is that your hosting provider may be able to help in this instance. I recommend contacting GoDaddy for further assistance since they are in the best position to help. Thanks!
