change of URL address
-
Hello, I’ve found online your instructions for how to change a blogs URL address. I’m wondering if there is a way to change the URL of a blog while maintaining all the previous content under the new URL. Do old posts remain on the blog when the URL is changed? Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey! You can change the domain name under My Site > Domains. Here are some more detailed step-by-step instructions on doing so!
Just keep in mind that this will make the original URL permanently unavailable moving forward, by yourself or anybody else. Your content will still be there, though. So if you think you may possibly decide to re-use the original URL, you may be better off creating a new blog with the new name. Does this help you out?
Happy blogging! -
When you change your wordpressdotcom URL, your content will appear on the new URL, however your social media shares will reset themselves because of the new site address.
Also, you can choose to keep or delete your old wordpressdotcom URL as a part of the URL change process. It’s my understanding that if you keep the old URL, your stats/followers will not be automatically redirected to the new URL, but I’ve tagged this for Staff to confirm that.

When you change your site address, your stats, followers and content will be moved over to the new address, regardless of whether you keep the old address or delete it. If you choose to keep the old address, a new empty site will be created at the old address, while your existing site will appear exactly as it is at the new address.
However, existing links to the old address, for example, links that have been shared on Facebook and Twitter, won’t be redirected automatically, also regardless of whether you keep the old address or not. Links to the old address will lead to Page not found errors, as the pages to which those links used to refer will no longer exist at those links.
It’s not possible to redirect links to a deleted site, period. But if you choose to not delete the old address, you can add the site redirect upgrade to the old site to redirect any existing links out on the web to the new address.
