Change of Username and etc

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello everyone,

I am asking this on behalf of my brother who has his own website hosting while using WordPress – but we are both stuck on hoping to change the WordPress username (the one used to log in).

I am aware that there is a video available that’s addressing this issue, but when he tries to change the username through WordPress, it is not applicable for his case. We’ve referred to this video but the option to change the login username is just not available. (Video: https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/)

Additionally, we were wondering if removing the current user and creating a new administrator user would solve this issue? However, as he has the web hosting cPanel installed with WordPress, we are more worried that one might affect the other. In fact, we aren’t sure if this will solve the issue of login through WordPress and not cPanel.

The reason for the above is because we wish to change the profile picture but we are not able to login Gravatar due to this login issue (of the username).

It would be great if someone is able to assist us in this matter, please!

    Thank you so much! :)

    TLDR;
    1) How to change the login username
    2) Will removing the current, and only, user affect our web hosting cPanel
    3) How do we change the profile picture if we can’t enter Gravatar due to login issue

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there!

Can you please specify if the site you need help with is thedncs.wordpress.com or is it another one?

The instructions you mention in your post refer to WordPress.com accounts.

Since you mentioned cPanel, it sounds as your site is using the open-source WordPress.org software so I suggest you seek help at these forums:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

These forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites only. If you want to know more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org you can read this document:

    Hello,

The website that we would require help would be on another website that he’s still trying to set up. Would the URL be required to seek for assistance on this?

Alright, I will post the same question on the website forum as provided by you then! Thank you so much :)

    Have a great day ahead!

    Hi,

Sorry but it seems that I would need to log in to the WordPress.org site to access the forum.

However, in this case, the issue is we are unable to log in due to the username issue. Is there any alternatives you are able to advise on this?

The main problem is, his username seems to be admin which we are not able to log in with it…

Looking forward to any help. Thank you!

Yes, we’ll need to know at least the URL of the site to be able to help out or point you in the right direction.

As mentioned before, note that we can only help with WordPress.com hosted sites.

    Hello :)

The website that we are using is (https://vantruckguru.sg/).

Are you able to advise how we are able to send a query if we are not able to log in to send the query in the first place? ):

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you so much!

  • https://vantruckguru.sg/ does not use the managed hosting environment from WordPresss.com. You will need to visit https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ to get assistance with that site. That site looks to be hosted by A2 Hosting from what I can find.

This means you’re running the open source WordPress.org software.

Anyone can post in the WordPress.org forums, you just need to create a user account there.

    Hello,

Alright, I assumed that we’ll need to post on the forum with the same username as the one for the website we’re using.

So I guess any username is fine right?

And thanks for the great help so far! :)

  • Sure thing. You need to use your WordPress.org account when posting at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ It could possibly be the same username as your WordPress.com account.
