Change order of portfolio projects
-
Is there any way to change the order in which portfolio projects are shown on a portfolio page?
I don’t see an ‘order’ option like the option seen on pages.
Without an ordering feature for portfolio pieces, I have to make sure to upload portfolio examples in reverse order that I want them to appear, which is cumbersome.

Hi there, Portfolios are date ordered like posts with the most recent displaying first, so perhaps this previous forum discussion will help you too https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-to-change-the-order-of-portfolio-projects/
Let us know if you need further help with this.

Thanks for the reply, Jennifer.
Based on the discussion you linked, it looks like I can use the following shortcode to control the ordering:
[portfolio order=DESC]
However, I want my portfolio items to appear in a fixed order that I can determine myself, rather than displaying by date created. Is that possible? Thanks again!

Hello again, can you let us know the address of your WPcom site so we can take a better look? Thanks.

This is my current portfolio page:
https://jcharlescarter.wordpress.com/portfolio-2/
It only has example portfolio projects at the moment, as I am trying to figure out how to arrange the order of them before uploading all of my portfolio pieces.

Thanks for adding that information. Looking through previous forum posts I found this thread that specifically pertains to Blask‘s Portfolio page:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/blask-theme-reordering-the-portfolio-projects/I’d also suggest reading the replies from Staff in the topic that @musicdoc1 linked to.
I have a test site set up with Blask that includes a number of Portfolio projects and the masonry layout of the Portfolio page does tend to ignore specific dates in favor of the way the featured image appears. Overall, however, the layout still displays the newest Portfolio projects towards the top and older projects falling towards the bottom. (temp screenshot)

Thanks for finding that info, Jennifer.
It looks like the portfolio ordering functionality I’m looking for doesn’t exist yet, either through WordPress or through the Blask theme.
For now, I’ll move forward by uploading my portfolio projects in reverse order of importance, and in the future, I’ll keep an eye out for themes that might allow me to fix the order in which portfolio projects are shown.
I do think this is an important option for WordPress to implement across all Portfolio content, though. Is there somewhere to make feature requests? Thanks for your help.

You’re welcome. You might want to try a different Portfolio theme to see if it works better for you. https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/subject:portfolio
I’ve also added a tag for Staff attention to this thread, so they’ll see your feedback here.

Thanks for the tag @justjennifer
I have reported this feature request to our eternal developers, @jccarte – I think it is a request that many users would like and appreciate (for portfolio projects and posts). You will be notified in this thread with any updates pertaining to this request, if it is decided to move forward with adding the feature.
Thanks!
