change picture that shows in header for particular blog post; modularity lite
-
I just started my blog using modularity lite. My second blog posting (we haven’t turned into pumpkins yet, but…) I tried to use picture 1 from my gallery as the picture that would show at the top. It looks like those pictures cycle from all posts in a slideshow format to me, is that right? So I chose picture 1 in the gallery as the featured image, and was hoping that would make it be the one that shows. But the last one, 11, keeps showing. So then I changed the order of the gallery to see if that would make a difference, but it still shows 11 on the two that cycle at the top. What am I not understanding or doing wrong? Please let me know if you need extra info.
The other thing I need help with is how to resize pictures in the gallery so they will fit on the screen. In the gallery thumbnails they are fine, of course. But if you click on them to look at each photo, some of them are too large for the screen. They say thumbnail is clicked when I look at them in the gallery, so please let me know how to edit them appropriately to look good when someone clicks on them.
Thanks!

The featured image doesn’t appear to be wide enough. It needs to match the width of the header image detailed at Appearance -> Header in you Dashboard.

on modularity lite, it says it needs to be at least 950×425, and will use 950×200 as is, without cropping. how do I resize the photo to make it work? The one I am trying to use says it is 3648×2432. The one it inserts instead for the featured image says it is 3072×2034.Do I need to put a new scale in when editing? Right now the scale says the original dimensions. Or do I need to put a new aspect ratio in when editing? If so, what would that be?
thanks!

Yeah, it needs to match the dimensions.
Do you have an image editor that you could use to scale it down?
-
so I did scale it down to 950×425, which is what the featured images info for modularity lite says. I uploaded it again as a 950×425 sized image, saved changes to the gallery, clicked it as the featured image, updated my post. And it still shows the other image. So now not sure what the problem is. Sorry to belabor a little point, but want to figure it out for any future situations like this. The other picture is still scaled 3072×2034, and it is still getting picked as the feature image for that post, even though the other one is identified as the feature image in the gallery settings.

sure. It is the post titled, “we haven’t turned into pumpkins yet, but…” I want picture 1 in the gallery to be the featured image when it makes a slideshow of images from posts on the home page, and it continues to show image 11 instead. Even though I resized image 1 to 950×425 (which is what it says they should at least be when I read about the home page slide show in info about modularity lite). http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/modularity-lite/

So it actually seems like it shouldn’t even really need to be resized for that feature, but just be tagged as the feature image.
Probably it is something really easy that I am missing, but I can’t figure it out.
Thanks for your help! -
I do apologize for my misunderstanding here.
It appears to be working as designed.
I was expecting it to appear at http://svenskamusings.wordpress.com/2011/10/03/we-havent-turned-into-pumpkins-yet-but/ but it actually appears in the main slideshow at http://svenskamusings.wordpress.com/ which is what it’s supposed to do in this case.

The “wrong” picture is showing in the main slideshow though. That is not the picture that I set as the featured image; rather, that is image 11 that I mentioned above. I requested that image 1 from that gallery show in the main slideshow as the featured image. That is the image titled “sunset in the Stockholm archipelago.” Sorry to be confusing. Hopefully this now makes sense.

so here’s what I did. makes no sense, but it “worked.” I deleted and re-uploaded #11 and it still showed, same as before. So I just plain deleted it, and then it showed picture #10 as the feature image. So I moved picture #1 (the one I want as the feature image) to the last place in the gallery, and it works. I don’t know why. In the first post it correctly shows image #1 as the feature image for that post, not picking the last one.
So it’s a fix, even if it doesn’t make sense.
Thanks for your help, and if you have ideas about a true fix let me know. And I guess I will see what happens on the next one, but at least have ideas on what to try now!
