Change Recent Posts Excerpt

I can see how to change the excerpts in my other posts but how to I change the one for the Recent Posts page?! It’s infuriating me that my homepage just reads “This is a short excerpt for the About page”

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

It’s infuriating me that my homepage just reads “This is a short excerpt for the About page”

I don’t find an excerpt for the “About” page on the homepage of the site https://secrettttraining.wordpress.com/. Are you referring to a different site? Or have you made changes since submitting this support request?

No, when I copy that link and share it on Facebook, it comes up with the picture of me with the awards and that excerpt.

Enabling the Publicize tool for Facebook and other social networking sites allows you to automatically share new WordPress.com posts at those sites. Posts and pages are different. Certainly, your recent posts shared at Facebook wouldn’t and shouldn’t include the “About Me & My Blog” page from the site, because that’s a static page, not a post.

However, I’m inexperienced with respect to the Publicize tool, Sharing, and social networking sites, and I might be misunderstanding what you are saying and your goal. Please add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention if you’d like to receive expert advise on this matter.

I haven’t used the publicize feature, I literally copied the address and pasted it into a Facebook status and that’s the “snippet” that appears and I don’t know how to change it.

  • Hi there,

If the preview of a link you share on Facebook does not match what is actually at that link the problem is on Facebook’s end, not ours. We don’t control what appears there, but can only make suggestions to Facebook. They make the decision of what to show in the preview.

They also save the preview for a given link, so if you later change the content of that page, the preview on Facebook will still show the old content. To force Facebook to update it, paste the link on this page, click Debug, and then click Fetch New Scrape Information:

    That’s done it, thank you!

  • Thanks for letting me know :)
