  I am trying to find out if/how I can change my login name.

  Change your username – Change your display name

  Once you change your username you will not be able to change it back and the old name will not be available for you or anyone to use. If you just want to show your name differently please only change your Display Name. From: https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/

  Hello timethief,

  Thanks for the speedy response to my query. I have managed to change my username, but the old one is still hanging around in the background. I would like to get rid of it altogether.

  Username accounts are not deleted https://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/
