Change size of Featured Image
-
The picture I want to use is 474 x 474px, but I cannot change the size of the allowed image space to fit all of this. When I post the image, the top and bottom are cut off. I tried “edit image” to change and scale the image to fit into the allowed space, but that did not work either.
Please help! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy Lauren,
Just so we’re on the same page, are you referring to the featured image for each blog post or the header image for your site?

Just for some additional clarification….the original image on the Meditation post (posted today) shows additional space above the top of the girl’s head, as well as her legs sitting. You’ll see on the post that it cut off both the top and bottom of this image, and I want the entire original image included.

Hi @laurensmith87,
The Sela theme has a line of code that automatically sets the featured image for each post as 820×312. I’m afraid this isn’t adjustable via CSS. Increasing the height and width of the image will just stretch the 820×312 version, not enable a version that shows the full image. I’m afraid that’s not possible with the featured image in the Sela theme.
Would you be open to switching themes? Many themes will have this sort of auto-cropping. However, happy to help you look for one that doesn’t!

Jeremey,
I was able to scale down the image size so that the entire picture fits in the available space. Is there a way to get the Featured Image aligned in the center of the page, rather than left-aligned?
Thanks -
Hey Lauren,
That’s likely possible with CSS. I believe it would require moving the main content to the left rather than centering the featured image. However, I’m going to tag in some experts to handle this one. Would you mind posting in the CSS Customizations forum here?

We have some gurus in that forum that will be able to help out much better than I!
