change text above comment box
-
Long ago, I had added extra text to appear above my Comment form. Now there is no place in Discussion >Comment Form to delete that text that I added. It begins with “C’mon, leave a comment…” I want that deleted, so that only the theme’s “[number of ]thoughts on [post title]” appears. Could you delete that text that I added? Thank you so much.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey there @daniceseclectic! Thanks for getting in touch. It’s been quite a while since I saw custom comment form text like that! We haven’t had an interface for it for a few years now, but I was able to remove the extra text for you so it’s got a default message again.
If you want to customize your comment form going forward, our newer themes give you quite a bit of flexibility on that. You can basically build the template out as you’d like. If you’re interested, I’d recommend jumping into one of our webinars on the Site Editor, or reading more here. Cheers!

Thank you so much for deleting that text for me. I realize Cerauno is an older theme, but the newer themes appear to be designed more towards business and selling. Many have no blog sidebar. I do like Twenty-Twenty Three, but it has no sidebar option. Most also don’t have pages visible without clicking on an ellipsis, something that many visitors simply will not even know what that is. Hoping that in the near future some of the new themes will be designed with blogging more in mind. Again, thank you for all of your help. I will look at the webinars as you suggested.

Hello again supernovia. One more question- the Twenty Seventeen theme is newer than my current theme- Cerauno, isn’t it?
I prefer to keep Cerauno, but fear that it might get retired soon due to it’s age. Are theme users told ahead of time before a theme is retired so they can choose another one?

Hey there,
Happy to help you with this.

I understand this sentiment! If it helps, the Full Site Editor, gives you that freedom to create as many or as little sidebars as you see fit. So this might be of interest https://en.support.wordpress.com/site-editor/ as well as the webinars.
One more question- the Twenty Seventeen theme is newer than my current theme- Cerauno, isn’t it?
Yes it is. Cerauno was built circa 2015.

Typically, users aren’t notified of a retirement and usually face a theme change, when something breaks, and wouldn’t be updated or supported… So in terms of time limit, this is kind of untethered.
Something you may wish to think about, is creating a test site on the account and getting familiar with Full Site Editing and new theme behind closed doors. It’s what I did when my theme was getting old and this learning was invaluable to me. In the end, I just switched and never looked back.
I hope this is useful information to you. :)

Thank you. Very helpful information. I actually already have a test site from like 10 years ago that I tried to use the Site Editor on, and didn’t have great results. ‘Will watch more of the webinars as well. My main trouble was adding a sidebar.
‘Kind of unlucky that not one but two of my former themes have been retired- Book Lite and Ippo. I had purchased Ippo way back when free account users could purchase a theme. Thank you again for all of your information :)

I have been working on my test site with the Tenaz theme. Watched the webinars also. Thinking of switching my blog to that theme. The demo site is a look that I do like, but the only thing is that theme won’t display more than a few posts. There is no “load more posts” or “previous” or “next” post. Cannot figure out how to do that in the Editor. I cannot understand why a blogging theme wouldn’t have those elements already. Is there a way to accomplish that? Thank you, again.

Hey there,
Happy to help you with this.
The demo site is a look that I do like, but the only thing is that theme won’t display more than a few posts. There is no “load more posts” or “previous” or “next” post.
Looking at the Tenaz theme, the front page is displaying separate query blocks from different categories, so with that structure, although you can add a pagination block into the query block https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/query-loop-block/#pagination-previous-post-and-next-post – it wouldn’t really make sense to add this under the different categories.
In this instance, I would just add a standard button under each query block: https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/blocks/buttons-block/ – linking the category archive pages, with said, load more posts text…
That’s how I would tackle that. :)
I’m hoping this is useful!

OK thank you. I fear changing my theme, because on Tenaz the option to Try It is not available. Only Info and Activate.
-
Hi there!
I totally understand what you mean!
Tenaz is a free theme, so you can actually create a free WordPress.com site to activate the theme and play around with it in the site editor. Once you become comfortable with how it works, you can activate it on your primary site and customize it as needed. :)
This way, you can take your time to understand how to customize different areas of the Tenaz homepage and only change your theme on your primary site when you’re ready.
Hope that helps!

Yes, I already did that on a test blog. So far, I’m learning a lot. I am just stuck in the older way of thinking what a blog should look like. Tenaz is definitely a change of appearance for me, but a theme that is really beautiful and modern.
One thing that I cannot figure out is how to get the Archives above the lower area of the footer to change to my own blog post categories. Is there a way to have it do that without having to edit it every time I add a new category?

So archives, can be added as a block as before and would be added via Appearance > Editor > and then you would need to just click on the footer area and this would be added site wide.
What hurdles specifically are you encompassing when you add this?
Speak soon!

I thought that because the block is already on the theme that my categories would automatically appear there. Why does a new archives have to be added, and what would happen to the one that is already included with that theme? Adding a new archives makes a vertical list, not the appearance of the one that comes with the theme. I wish things could still be done via the Customizer. It was easier to do, and easier to preview the changes before deciding to activate them. Thank you.

Hey there,
Thanks for reaching back out.

Once the block is in place, these would be added automatically as they’re created in the site.
The ones already added the theme would also still remain.
not the appearance of the one that comes with the theme.
So are you looking to use the drop down version?
Many thanks!
