Change Text Color and Font

    I am confused about how to change text color and font. If I apply a paragraph or heading style to text in a text box, then changing the font or color in typography doesn’t have any effect and the text stays as is. I have had very few times, almost never, when changing the settings in typography will make it do what I want, even if a style has not been applied. I looked through some topics on text color but wasn’t able to find this. Thank you for any help.
