Change Text Editor size on WordPress.com site?
-
Hi all,
I’m relatively new to WordPress (using it on and off during the last five years or so) but I’m coming from ExpressionEngine so I know my HTML and my CSS well. I’ve also used RapidWeaver on a few projects.
My problem is, that on WordPress.com hosted sites (first time I try that, and I really like it!) you can’t just access your FTP-server, and change things willy-nilly, like you can on EE, RW and WP.self-hosted.
The core of my issue is, that I’d like to make the font the Editor uses – when you for example create a new post – bigger. Like from 14 to 16 px or whatever measurement is used.
I doesn’t have to be fancy, with a menu and all, just some code I’m the boss over. If possible I’d also like to change the font used, to something like Source Code Pro or Ubuntu Mono from Google Fonts.
So some simple Stylesheet I could have – for example – on my own FTP-server, that my WordPress.Pro site could see, and change the editor when I changed that.
Is this possible on Pro? I’ve read page after page on WordPress.org on how to accomplish something like this, but it seems I’m not able to edit Stylesheets on the pro version, is this correct?
If not, how can I make the Editor see my Stylesheet or CSS code, so I don’t have to change something for every new post, but something that is constant. I won’t change theme for this site, if it helps.
Any ideas, anyone? And sorry if this has been covered before, I could only find answers to non-pro versions of WP, sorry!
PS: Is it true, one can’t use Plug-Ins either on the Pro version? Seems we’re paying for a lot that’s missing…

Hi Thomas
I don’t think it is possible to do what you are asking with WordPress.com
I refer you to this article on the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org – https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

You know what; fast answer, link to info, and friendly help – I can’t ask for more then, thank you my friend! :)
But perhaps an idea for the devs:
- A simple menu where you can select among some carefully selected fonts, that are great and legible when writing, don’t forget mono-spaced fonts! Or a simple box, where you can add your favorite Google Font
- Also don’t forget line spacing, I write a lot in Scrivener for Mac, and always set line spacing at 1.4 or 1.5 which really helps with long texts
- And since Google Fonts has other features, like “boldness” that should be an easy thing to do
Actually, perhaps open up for CSS’ing the entire admin-panel!
You got a lot of heat wit the “pale-blue screen of death” (not my quote, I actually like it, although it can become confusing where you find what feature). Can it be turned off entirely btw?
You could with opening up for CSS in the admin-interface, create a repository where the best could be displayed and downloaded – just an idea?
Anyways g47n – thank’s for setting my mind in idea mode, and again thank you very much for the fast and concise answer :)
