change text of footer

I would like to change the text at the bottom of my site, that says

    “Blog at WordPress.com.
    Benevolence theme by Theron Parlin.
Syndicate entries using RSS and Comments (RSS). This theme contains valid XHTML and CSS.”

Where do I do that? I can’t find it in the CSS, obviously, because it isn’t style script. It is content. Anybody know where to go to change that so it says

    “Copyright Aiyana Cadwell 2010”

    Thanks.

    Gina

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m guessing that you fif not know that removing the link to the designer of the theme from the footer is unethical. Staff have requested that we neither remove it or cover it up. This is because you are not the theme designer and you did not code the underlying template. All you did was provide a CSS edited stylesheet and an image and what that amounts to is “styling”. In addition as you are being free hosted by wordpress.com it’s expected that your will not remove that part either as you will want to share the good news that any of your readers can also get a free hsosted wordpress.com blog.

If you wish to post a copyright declaration or notice or licence pertaining to the blog contents and place it on a static page that can be done and you have some choices you can make. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2008/10/07/how-to-copyright-your-digital-works/

typo – “fif ” in the 1st sentence above was supposed to have been “did” – sorry

I really want to change the way that is worded though. If that is the case, do you know how I can change it so it reads something a little more attractive and easy for people to understand like

    “Content copyright Aiyana Cadwell 2010
    Hosted by WordPress.com
Theme based on Benevolence by Theron Parlin”

Nobody is going to understand what “Syndicate entries using RSS and Comments (RSS). This theme contains valid XHTML and CSS.” means, nor will they care and it makes the page look ugly. At least with my way, it still gives credit to the creator of the theme, thanks wordpress for the free hosting, and notes who owns the content.

I’d switch to a theme without the stuff about RSS and CSS in the footer – most of them don’t have that – and put my copyright notice in a sidebar widget.
I don’t think that there is a way, at WordPress.com, of putting your own text into the footer.

    @Andrew
The reason I suggested a static page rather than a sidebar widget for the copyright notice is because she has a structured a blog that operates like a website.

This is what she says about it: “Welcome to my brand new website! ”

@andrew: In some themes it’s possible – see Example 1 here:

    Position absolute (pt. 1)

(@aiyanacadwell: “Some themes” unfortunately doesn’t include Benevolence.)

@tt, @pang, thanks for clearing up.

Yeah i kinda figured that some themes just allow more freedom than others. Too bad. I kinda liked that one.

If you do NOT expect your readers to subscribe to your blog, then notifying them that unlike websites, your blog does have RSS feeds for that purpose for both posts and comments won’t be of interest to readers.

If that’s the case then .. if the font color on “Syndicate entries using RSS and Comments (RSS). This theme contains valid XHTML and CSS.” was the same color as the background then that would eliminate the visual but the functionality would still be there.
