Change the Background
-
Hi,
Background doesn’t appear in “Appareance” as it is said in the tutorials.
I found on internet that i had to add “add_theme_support ()” in the code of the theme, in functions.php.1: i didn’t find where to go
2: i never changed a code, seems risky.Any advice ?
Thank you ! Alice. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Alice, you’re right: I’d recommend against directly editing the theme code. Instead, you’ll want to create a child theme.
But you wouldn’t be able to do either for the site you’ve listed here, since free sites doesn’t allow outside code:
If that is indeed the site you’re working on and you’d like to add a background to it, let us know; you’ll want a Premium Plan so you can use CSS with the site. Then just upload the background you want to use and we can give you the code for that.

Hi folks,
Hope you don’t mind me adding a few things, @supernovia. : -)
@alicekline,
Background doesn’t appear in “Appareance” as it is said in the tutorials.
If your request is in regards to a WordPress.com site, then Background wouldn’t appear under Appearance. If the theme you’re using supports custom backgrounds, then you’ll be able to customize the backgrounds at Customize > Colors & Backgrounds, as described in the Custom Backgrounds support page.
The tutorial you refer to may have been for self-hosted WordPress.org sites, as suggested by @supernovia above. Video tutorials for WordPress.com sites:
- Video Tutorials main index
- Customize Your Site – category index
Within the latter index you’ll find the How to add a custom background video tutorial.
-
But as @supernovia indicates the theme presently applied to the site http://alicekine.wordpress.com/ (Shawburn) doesn’t have a Colors & Backgrounds section in Customize available to sites with the free plan.
