I am not sure what theme you are using, to clearly suggest how to go about editing your theme. Adjusting the theme default width will be theme specific for example here, here and here.Since your blog is private, it would be good if you could get in touch on that theme specific support page, You will get a response specific to your theme.

Ignore my previous comment. I missed out the theme name in your title. :) . I downloaded the theme and figured out on how to edit the theme width. Edit the value 400px in the CSS below to your choice and you should be able to change the default width of the theme..section-inner.thin { width: 400px; }BTW the default width of the theme is 740px. Let me know how it goes.
