Change the DNS on WordPress.org

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
I have a self hosted WordPress.org blog, and I’m currently using Siteground. The problem is that Siteground changed the DNS but I don’t know how to change them on my blog.
Thank you in advance for your help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi fleurdh,

This is a WordPress.com forum, where you’ll get help with WordPress.com related issues. Since you have a self-hosted WordPress.org site, you’ll get better support at the WordPress.org forum ;)

That being said, as far as I know, changing DNS settings is not something you do inside of the WordPress.org installation. This is something you do either with your hosting provider or domain name provider. To read more about this, check out this helpful link:

    Hi,
    Thank you for your reply.
Actually it probably is a WordPress.com related question, because I first purchased my http://www.fleurdhiver.com domain on WordPress.com and then I switched to WordPress.org, sorry for not having explained it earlier.
It already happened few months ago and I managed to solve it here, but for some reasons I can’t solve it now.

I see, that makes sense. Sorry for not considering this option.

If you haven’t already done so, reading this article might help? If you have, and you’re still stuck, I would just add “modlook” to the tag field of this post (to the right of the screen), and you’ll get help from a moderator.

Thank you for the article, I’ve checked my Domains page and it appears to be different, I don’t have all the shown options.

Yes, I will need help from a moderator.

Ok, I´ve added the modlook tag, so hopefully they´ll help you out with this.

  • Hi there,

You won’t be able to change the name servers for the domain, fleurdhiver.com, as you don’t own it. That domain expired on 14 November and is currently in redemption with our registrar.

I should still be able to get it back for you, but our registrar charges a $80 fee to restore a domain from redemption. I’ll need you to agree to that fee before I can start the recovery process.

Hi, thank you for your help. Will all the content still appear on the website after that?

  • Are you speaking of your content with us, or with Siteground?

If you already had a site at Siteground connected to that domain, all your content should still be on Siteground’s servers. At the moment you just can’t access it, as it’s not connected to a domain on the web.

Once the domain is restored and reconnected to your Siteground account, it should immediately start showing your site again, and you’ll be able to access the dashboard again.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Ok Thank you.

I agree with the charge of 80 dollars fee to restore the domain fleurdhiver.com

  • I have sent a payment link to you via email. Once we receive payment I can contact our registrar to restore the domain. If the recovery fails, your payment will be refunded in full.

I haven’t received any email yet. Could you please re-send the link to this address: (email visible only to moderators and staff) ?
    Thank you for your patience

  • The link was sent to the email address connected to your account. You can see that email here:

    https://wordpress.com/me/account/

If that is no longer your email address, please update it in your account settings, verify it via the email you’ll receive, and let me know. Then I can resend the link, but the link can only be sent to the email address on your account.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you, I just payed for the renewal. What should I do next?

  • Thank you. I’ve emailed our registrar to ask them to restore the domain. I will let you know as soon as I hear from them.

Normally this takes around 24 hours, but as it’s New Year’s weekend it might not be restored until early next week, so please be patient while waiting.

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok, I’ll wait. Thank you so much for everything that you’ve done!

  • It’s my pleasure :)

It looks like our registrar wanted to finish 2016’s work in 2016, and your domain has already been restored. The contact email address needs to be re-verified, so I’ve sent you an email with a verification link. That email will come from a @secureserver.net address.

Please click the link in that email to verify your address, and then let me know so I can make sure the domain is properly reactivated and privacy protection applied.

It also looks like you might reconnect the domain on SiteGround’s end. Please contact their support to help you with that.

That’s awesome! I just verified the link in the email, so now I’m going to reconnect the domain to SiteGround.

Thank you so much for your help, and have a wonderful New Year’s Eve! :)
