Change- the website name of a premium registration

  • Unknown's avatar

I want to change my registered domain name and use another that I owe but I want to keep the premium sign up and assign it to the new domain.

How do I do that? I’m happy to lose the wrongturnoutofsarajevo.com domain.

    Please advise?

    Matt

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I should be able to help you with that.

Would you be setting up a new WordPress.com site? Or just renaming/re-purposing thewrongturnoutofsarajevo.wordpress.com?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Renaming and repurposing.

If I am better of starting a new wordpress then I am happy to
Do that too. I just don’t want to pay for a new premium.

  • You can rename/repurpose or start anew. Either way is just as easy from my end as far as making the transfer. So it is really up to you if you have a preference one way or the other.

However, you will need to pay to register a new domain name if you are not going to use wrongturnoutofsarajevo.com. WordPress.com Premium comes with one free domain registration and you have used that for wrongturnoutofsarajevo.com.

I’ll start anew and transfer the premium subscription to the new site. . I’m not sure what posts i’m going to want to use at the moment. I will keep Wrong Turn as I paid for it.

I have already brought the domain name its 6degreesoftravel.com.

What more would you need from me mate?

  • Set up a new WordPress.com site and let me know what it is, then I will be able to transfer your Premium upgrade to it.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, thats all done. Can we get it transferred now? Can’t wait to get going!

I just realised that I have two premium accounts and only need one. Is it possible to cancel one? the other on on is matthaynesphotography.com

    Cheers,

    Matt

  • Hi, thats all done. Can we get it transferred now? Can’t wait to get going!

    Which is your new site?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Sixdegreesoftravel.wordpress

  • Hi Matt – To confirm, you would like me to cancel the Premium upgrade for http://matthaynesphotography.com/ but leave the domain mapping only, correct? Or do you not want to use matthaynesphotography.com with that site?

Then, you’d like me to move the Premium upgrade from thewrongturnoutofsarajevo.wordpress.com to sixdegreesoftravel.wordpress.com, correct? You can then map your new domain to that blog.

Also, I can leave the domain thewrongturnoutofsarajevo.com on the old blog, or I could move it to your new one as well and you can just set the new domain to primary so that both domains point to the new blog. Just let me know.

    Hi guys,

Sorry for the delay. I’ve been working on the new blog name. I would like wrong turn premium subscription to be changed and moved to cornersoftheworldblog1. I have brought cornersoftheworld.org and will custom map to that. Please cancel the mapping for wrongturnoutofsarajevo and I’ll just use cornersoftheworld.org

I would like to cancel the premium subscription for Matthaynesphotography.com, I won’t use domain mapping for the time being on that site. Thanks

Is that everything you need for me,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt – You’d registered the domain thewrongturnoutofsarajevo.com with us, and domain registrations can only be refunded within the first 48 hours.

I’ve moved your premium upgrade to the new blog, there’s a free domain credit on it that you can use for the new mapping. I’ve left thewrongturnoutofsarajevo.com on the blog it’s on now. You can move it to another blog if you want, or I can go ahead and cancel it, but I can’t refund it. And finally, I’ve canceled the upgrade on matthaynesphotography and I’ve refunded you $73.00, which is the $99.00 for the upgrade less the $26.00 cost of the privately registered domain.

Does this all make sense, and are things set up the way you want them now? Let me know if not!

    Hi Eurello,

    Thanks for all your help.

The only issue that I am having now is with Domain Mapping. It’s saying:

    Error validating domain credit

I am trying to map cornersoftheworld.org to cornersoftheworld1 blog.

    Can you help with that?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi eurello,

I have tried, to just buy the domain mapping through a new credit card & PayPal and it’s also saying: error validating domain mapping.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt – Not sure why that was happening. I added it for you on my end: http://cornersoftheworld.org/

    HI Eurello,

Thanks for all your help but wordpress is starting to fry my brains and i’m relatively tech savvy.

Firstly, I had no option to install a theme a purchase outside of WordPress from Organic themes. I had to rebuy it through the word press site to get it to install. (I uploaded the theme to my hosted site and there was no option on WordPress to instal / activate the theme.

Now that it seems to be installed (Through rebuying), I have no options to use plugins, the reason why I brought the thing and went premium in the first instance. CAn you help me resolve that?

Please help me, i’m loosing day after day because of the time difference and contiual problems. (none of which are your fault Eurello). I really appreciate all your hep, but is there anyone in Australia who can take over because our time difference is too vast and i’m on a deadline.

    Thanks again,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt – The first thing to understand is the difference between sites hosted here on WordPress.com and sites using the WordPress software that are hosted on other platforms, such as DreamHost or Bluehost. We have a couple of articles that explain the differences:
    https://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/11/14/com-or-org/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

The sites at http://cornersoftheworld.org/ and http://thewrongturnoutofsarajevo.com/ are both hosted here at WordPress.com. It’s not possible to install plugins on WordPress.com for security reasons, but a lot of the things that people need plugins for are already built into WordPress.com, which makes them unnecessary.

The Premium upgrade gives you a number of upgrades, such as the ability to edit CSS and add video. You can read about all of those upgrades here: http://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/pro-bundle/

The next step for you is to determine whether you can do what you want to do with your site here at WordPress.com, or if you need to move to a self-hosted WordPress site. This depends on what plugins you want to add. They might be things that are already included here, or they might be things you really need a self-hosted site to do. If you need a self-hosted site, we can refund the upgrades you’ve purchased here, and you can acquire hosting, install WordPress and point your domain to the new site.

We don’t currently have a support person in Australia, but I’ll ask one of our folks in Europe to keep an eye on this thread to see if you can get replies a bit faster. :)

    Hi Eurello,

For the purpose of the type of blog I’m
Building and for my own learning curve I need a self hosted site. I’m ready to go on my end if you can flick the switch.

Is there any thing else that you need from me to make this change?

Can you please also point me in the direction of a good post to read to get me up to speed on pointing to a self hosted site.

    Cheers!!

    Matt

    Hi Matt,

If you’re sure you want a self-hosted WordPress site, I can help you figure out the steps you need to move from your WordPress.com-hosted site to a self-hosted one. However, it’s a little more complicated than just flicking a switch. :)

To start, you’ll need to get yourself set up with a website host. We have a list of recommended sites here: http://get.wp.com/hosting/

At your new host, you’ll need to install the WordPress software. Some hosts offer a quick way to install WordPress, but otherwise you can download the software from WordPress.org here: http://wordpress.org/download/

Then, you can export your site’s content from here at WordPress.com and import it on your new self-hosted site. We also have an overview of moving your site from WordPress.com to WordPress.org on this page: Moving a Blog

The last step, once everything is ready to go on your self-hosted site, is to point your domain to the self-hosted site. You can do that by changing your domain’s name servers, with this guide: Change Name Servers

If you’d like to avoid the hassle of doing this move yourself, we also offer a service called Guided Transfer where we help you move from WordPress.com to your self-hosted site. You can learn more about that service and see if it’s right for you here: Guided Transfer

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
