Change to a free domain…

  Hi,

  I’ve received an email to let me know that my domain ‘cupcakesbycocobcn.com’ is about to be automatically renewed on November 8, 2015. However I would like to change it back to a free domain. I did this once before with another site that I have. Please could this be done on my behalf or do I need to do something?

  cupcakesbycocobcn.com is set as the primary domain for cupcakesbycocobcn.wordpress.com and you can cancel the upgrade https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades

  You can also disable auto-renew and remove your credit card information.

  Provided you are logged in under the same username account that purchased the upgrade, and you are within the allowed time frame for refunds, you can cancel and request a refund from your dashboard > Store > My Upgrades. You can also disable auto-renew there. http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades

  When you are logged in under the same username account that purchased the upgrade note:
  Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades

  as well as
  Dashboard > Store > Billing History

  Actually you can’t fully cancel a domain name on your own (after initial registration at least) because cancelling it can be such a permanent action. But we can help.

  What would you like to do with the domain name cupcakesbycocobcn.com ? If you cancel it, you won’t be able to use it at other services anytime soon, and may not be able to buy it again at all. As long as that’s fine, we can cancel it for you.

  Also to clarify, any other upgrade can be cancelled by the user, because the user can also immediately add it back again if they’d like. But domains get returned to the registrar, or sometimes resold, and it can be costly if not impossible to get them back again.

  Hi,

  Thanks for your responses… I’m not sure if I have done it correctly or not but I’ve put the primary domain as https://cupcakesbycocobcn.wordpress.com/ and cancelled my renewal (I think!).

  Basically, I want to keep the website up but no longer need it to have my own domain name. I’d prefer to keep it free.

  I hope I’ve done it right :)
