Change to replying to comments.
-
Yesterday when I received emails about comments on my blog, instead of the usual page, I received a table. The comment was at the top. It said it was an editable table. Below it was a choice to allow, pending or trash.
I saw nothing that allowed me to simply like the comment, nor was it obvious how to respond to the comments.
But the things that concerned me were that the commenters email was given and that I could edit the comment.
Neither of these things seems ethical to me. The recipient of a comment should not be able to alter it.
I haven’t given my permission for my email address to be handed out, and I don’t think the commenters will have done so, either.
What do people think of this? And is there any way we can get WordPress to stop either or both of these things?
This new way is not very intuitive to use, either.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, I haven’t encountered this new email feature you describe. Is it possible you’ve accidentally changed your email preference to Plain Text rather than HTML?
As far as commenting goes, however, when someone is logged in to their WordPress.com account and comments on your post or page, or if you require their name and email address to be entered when they comment, their email address is displayed in the Comments dashboard or the email you receive. It won’t be displayed on the actual post or page it appears on. This has always been the case since day one on WordPress.com.
This is also true of any comment you leave on another WordPress.com blog. Your email address is displayed to the site owner.
Also it’s always been the case that a site owner can modify a commenter’s comment. Whether you do or not is up to you and if so, many of us add a “edited by site owner” note.
