change to single space after paragraph
-
I’m using twenty twelve and want to change the CSS to single space after paragraph breaks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Did you try inserting line breaks by hitting Enter key once while in the Text Editor.

Yes that works, but I have a mostly poetry blog, and I’d like to know how to change the CSS in my theme to single space after paragraphs so I don’t have to do it for every line Surely it’s possible to change the formatting? I have premium, I thought for purposes such as this. In any event, thank you for your time and support. That means a lot.

The thing is, if you use CSS to change it, whenever you want a double space, like between stanzas, you will have to hand code BR tags in HTML. Are you up to that?
-
If you mean I have to put the
in the HTML each time I need to double space, yes I’m up to that. My only doubt is where exactly to put the
, at the end of the <div> for the line of text I want a double space after? -
For some reason the last post didn’t put in the br symbol in brackets, <>. That br in brackets is what you’re talking about?
-
It didn’t show because you didn’t put it in CODE tags. And yes, that’s what I said you’d need to do.
In my experience (and I manage a poetry column) it’s easier to hold the Shift key to singlespace than to click to the Text editor and add HTML when you want double spacing. I mean, it’s not like your thumb is actually doing anything anyway.

I should’ve mentioned that I’m converting from Blogger an entire blog at one time, and so I’m doing more cutting and pasting from Word or Blogger to WordPress.com than writing content. I want to be able to export it from Blogger (or Word) without it double spacing all the individual lines of poetry, or without me having to go to each line and change it manually, with the shift/enter keys once it’s in WordPress. Is this possible?
-
Could you confirm if you mean importing ( not copy pasting) your content from blogger is adding double spaces?
-
I have imported the posts but all the formatting is undone, and so I’m now going through each post that was imported from Blogger and redoing the formatting. I have each post as a Word doc, and so I’m using copy (from Word) and paste (to WordPress) for some items that are especially askew. For pages I’m copying from Word and pasting into WordPress, since those can’t be imported.
The difficulty is that when I try and paste a bulk of single spaced poetry using the ‘pre’ drop down, it’s not giving me the formatting from Word but continuing to double space, and I’ve tried it both hitting pre and then pasting and pasting, hightlighting, and then hitting pre. When I put the < > with pre and paste it in the HTML view, the lines are indented and quite small, and any changes I try to make puts them back in double space.
I can’t at this point change the CSS because it changes the line spacing in the entire blog.
-
I never imported anything from Blogger so I don’t know if formatting should be preserved after importing into WordPress.
-
Perhaps somewhere in the process of importing there could be some message to the effect you’ll have to go back and manually do a lot of the formatting of what was imported, a lot. It’s taken some days to re-format everything the got its formatting changed, and re-do pages that can’t be. They haven’t been days badly spent, and you are quite helpful, and so next time, or to help someone else, I will know what lies ahead and can do everything better. Thank you again.

@donnyduke, thanks for that suggestion. I’ll pass your suggestion along to the developers and I’m also going to review our relevant Support Documents for that information.
