Change to the Post Editor format
-
It looks like there has been a major change to the post editor format and it’s not user friendly. Are there any tutorials?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there,
These forums are for support to sites created on WordPress.com. I can see your site is self-hosted with an external provider.
Please refer to this link to find out the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org here:: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
You may be able to find help here: https://wordpress.org/support/ or contact your hosting provider.

Hi there, the last time I looked there wasn’t a tutorial for users on using the new editor over at WordPress.org, but there’s a bit of info in the intro here https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/ and although your site isn’t hosted here, our support guide to the new editor may help too. You can find it here> https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/
Hope that helps.

Hi there,
You can disable the new block editor added in WordPress 5.0 on your self-hosted site by installing the Classic Editor plugin:
-
It looks like it’s no longer possible to switch to the old editor. This is bad because the new one makes it impossible to cut and paste images in order to move them up or down the page. You are forced to add the image as a separate block, and there is no way to select to cut.
Also, how do you assign to Blog rather than Uncategorised?
I have looked all over and can find no place.
Why break something that worked? What is the point? By all means tidy up the layout, but these changes are not improvements :-(

Hey @tomblissleeds – can you please open a new thread at https://wordpress.com/help/contact That way we can give you better support with these issues. Make sure you mention the site you need help with. Thanks.

@justjennifer I don’t think there’s a new user guide yet aside from videos community members have made.
I know when it has more blocks, it’s going to have quite a few options and videos out there, so tutorials may focus on the specific type of block rather than the overall block editing experience.

Thanks @supernovia I would have thought if org wanted users to embrace and adopt the new editing experience, they would have published something already. Oh well. I’ll keep pointing folks to our support guide as I also see that is being expanded with additional information on individual blocks. :)

I’ve tried this new block editing and it is an absolute nightmare. You can switch back to the classic editing format, which I did after fucking up an article I was using as an experiment to see how it worked. Never make this new block editing mandatory. I might have to find a new outlet for my reviews if that ever happens.
