change to wordpress.org and self host, the consequences

  • Unknown's avatar

I purchased premium support upgrade, I purchased a custom template (organic themes). I am very confused about the consequences of making this change. Will I lose all of this? Will I have re-purchase the custom theme? What about the payment I made for premium support upgrade? I am concerned what will happen to my new site as it exists today, and how much money I may lose in this process. My account is very new, as you see. (The primary reason for making this move is to add a plugin called Wishlistmember). Thank you very much for your clarification.

    Hi there,

Unfortunately if you want to move to self-hosted, you would not be able to bring along your WordPress.com Premium upgrade or your Premium Theme. These are features specifically for WordPress.com.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities. At WordPress.com, we provide hosting, support, and tons of features for blogs. Users also have the option to purchase a variety of upgrades to customize the look and feel of their blog. WordPress.org is a software for self-hosted sites. With WordPress.org, users are provided access to all backend files and can upload custom themes and plugins.

Check here to learn more about the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

So, what I can do is provide you a full refund for WordPress.com Premium and the Premium Theme (as they both have a 30 day refund period).

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you for your reply to me. Question: Do you offer a service (fee based) for a technician to help me move my site? Did I see it is around $149? If so, can you tell me what process to follow? Thank you. My mission of course is to transition my existing site with minimal loss.

Yes! We have the Guided Transfer upgrade that will help you move over everything painlessly :). Take a look here:

You can purchase this directly from Store in your Dashboard!

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Outstanding. Final question: what order do you suggest I proceed? Things that must be done: I purchase hosting service. I purchase custom theme (direct). I pay for Guided Transfer. My exciting .org services (premium and premium theme) are cancelled and refunded. Super big thanks for your wonderful guidance here.

    Hi there,

I’d say let’s do the refunds/cancellations first. I have provided you a full refund for WordPress.com Premium and the Premium Theme: Adventure. Please note that it may take up to a week for the refund to show up in your bank account.

I suggest you now purchase Guided Transfer, and they would be able to help you with the hosting service and theme. :)

Let me know if you have any questions!

I have purchased the guided transfer. I have purchased the hosting. but now I see that my site is COMPLETELY GONE. I did NOT know that you would remove my site entirely when you processed the refund. Now I am out of business entirely. I did not know this would occur. That is precisely why I asked for guidance on the proper order to proceed. I read that it is completely transparent to the visitor. Well it is not and I am out of business and I am very very unhappy about this. (I also wish to use the same exact custom theme I had originally used). Please HELP me urgently, thank you.

    HI there,

I’m sorry, but just the theme customizations were removed. All your posts/pages are still there at healthysexyaging.wordpress.com. Sorry about the scare. I removed the Domain Mapping when I removed the WordPress.com Premium. I have added that back on, and you should be able to see it now at healthysexyaging.com without the Premium Theme.

I had to remove the Premium Theme, or you wouldn’t have been able to purchase Guided Transfer.
