Change type of post for portfolio – the only option is 'archive'

I’d like my project types to be added to the main menu and have done so by adding the portfolio pages to parent ‘portfolio’ on the menu. However, the portfolio parent page then displays a heading ‘archive’. The menu customization options only have 1 option – ‘post type archive’ Is there any other way to manage this?

    Hi,

The “Archives” heading or title of the Portfolio page can not be changed on a site with the free plan, not in the menu customization options or elsewhere. That title may be hidden with CSS customization, which is available on the WordPress.com Premium and Business Plans.

If you’re interested in taking that route, then I’d suggest that you either submit a separate request to the CSS Customization forum, or add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar at right here to call for staff attention.

Alternatively, you could create a custom portfolio archives page by inserting portfolio shortcode into a static page, and then replace the present Portfolio menu item with a custom link to the new custom portfolio archives page.

Having the portfolio page titled “Archives” is just a peculiarity of the Motif theme. Other WordPress.scom themes title the Portfolio (aka Portfolio archives page) “Portfolio” or “Portfolio Archives.” It’s typical on WordPress.com themes for the Portfolio to automatically be given a default title that can’t be edited on a free site.

The “Archives” title may also be removed with CSS customization. See the recommended alternatives in my first post.

I’ll soon move to premium and will get it sorted out then.
