Change url?
-
Is there a way to change the url without purchasing a domain? Or, to have a redirect?
I only have a blog on WordPress, but I’d like to change it from theteacherscoach.wordpress.com to something other than theteacherscoach.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If what you want to do is change the blog address ie. the URL to another .wordpress.com URL then note that this option will permanently disable the address and you will not be able to reuse it. Only select this option if you are sure you will not use the address again. If you want to redirect traffic to the new blog, you can keep the address and purchase the Site Redirect upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/

Okay, I wasn’t clear. What I really want to do is create a new url (Ex: newname.wordpress.com), but keep the old one (theprimary.wordpress.com) and have newname.wordpress.com also link to theprimary.wordpress.com.
I think (key word), I can do this for about $18 a year, the fee for newname.wordpress.com. Is that correct?

If you want to register another blog under the same username account ie. associated with the same email address then remain logged into WordPress.com and use this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
If you want to register another blog under a new username account ie. associated with a different email then register a new blog while logged out of WordPress.com
After your register the blog you can purchase an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the new blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
Make the domain mapping purchase here > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades and do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

Thanks a bunch. That’s sort of what I want – register another blog under the same username. Looks like I may need to do that, then purchase the site redirect. I want the new one, which is what most people think is my blog url to go to the original one. Does that make sense? :)
Thanks again, Timethief. I greatly appreciate the help.

@ drwixy, I think you’ve got it. :) In this case, you’ll actually want the Site Redirect upgrade, rather than one of the domain upgrades.
You can begin by adding a new blog to your existing account.
The Site Redirect upgrade can then be used to automatically direct visitors from one blog address to the other. If you want visitors to be directed from the new blog address to your original one, you can purchase the upgrade on the new blog.
If you have any questions about this, please let me know!
