Change URL

Hey, I just created an account and realized I wanted the URL to be something different. Is there a way to change it, or should I delete the account and start from scratch, I haven’t written anything yet, so that won’t be a big deal. Thanks for your help!

The top level domain here is wordpress.com and all sites hosted here on on .wordpress.com sub domains. The site title and the URL of the wordpress.com sub domain do not have to be the same.
1. You can use the theme customizer to change a site title under site identity https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/
2. The Site title (blog name) and/or the optional Tagline can be changed on the top of this page at any time. >Dashboard > Settings > General … “save changes”.

* You will have to replace NAME_OF_BLOG withe the actual name of the blog in that URL.That is exactly where search engine spiders look for the site title and removing it from there can cause issues with getting your content indexed. Note that the site title (blog name) and blog address URL do not have to be the same but it’s better for SEO (search engine optimization) if they are the same.
re: changing a .wordpress.com address
We cannot edit any blog URLs. If you want to change the .wordpress.com blog address ie. the URL starting with http:// then you must be logged in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog to do that and the URL you desire must be available. If so, then you can change the URL by using the guide http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/ Then all the content will be the same only the URLs will change and nothing else.Be sure to locate the correct page http://en.support.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dashboard-e1371648470893.png
Changing a URL is meant to be a permanent and irreversible act. No changed or deleted blog URLs are recycled here, regardless of who registered and deleted them and the only exceptions are made are for URLs that were deleted 2 or more years ago

You cannot register a username has previously been registered. There is no such thing as freeing up a username account as they are never deleted. They can only be deactivated. https://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/

Once you change your username you will not be able to change it back and the old name will not be available for you or anyone to use. If you just want to show your name differently please only change your Display Name. https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/

So, I tried the instructions for changing a wordpress address and instead of giving me the option to change it, I was shown a screen which said, “The page you requested does not exist, or you do not have have the necessary privileges to access it.” Not sure what to do at this point.

You should see a Change Address link under your site title there.
