I have an existing site that I am managing and I would like to change the URL

You can change your blog address by going to WordPress.com dashboard, and clicking Mange > Domains, clicking the blog you want to update, and then under Change Site Address, add the new address in the field.

Desired change: https://followgrandmadiving.wordpress.com

The button to confirm change is greyed out and can’t be clicked on. Please can anybody help?

By the way I have just successfully changed the WordPress.com address for three other blog sites five minutes ago and I can’t see what I’m doing different.

I just want to simplify it to end with .wordpress.com and get rid of .travel.blog which is cumbersome.

All help appreciated!

To follow up, I am now getting a message saying ‘Sorry, that site is reserved!’ when I try to amend the suffix to .wordpress.com…

… which is even more weird as it is my own domain.

Hi there,

You cannot register that address because it belongs to another user. If you used a different account to register that address you need to log in to that account.

If you don’t remember the login credentials for that account you can follow our Account Recovery guide:

Recover Your Account

If you have deleted that account, you can reply to the account closure email we have sent you and we’ll restore it.

Hi and thanks for replying. I think perhaps I wasn’t clear what I meant.

I already have https://followgrandmadiving.travel.blog and am logged in at the moment. That’s not the problem. I just want to change the suffix so it says .wordpress.com at the end.

As the member of staff has explained, you can’t change the site name because the address you want can be created only under your other account. Log in to that account rather than clairewalmsleydiver: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/users/followgrandmadiving/

followgrandmadiving.wordpress.com can only be registered by the username, followgrandmadiving, and this includes registering it via a site address change.

If you own the followgrandmadiving account, then you can do the following:

1. As the clairewalmsleydiver account, transfer ownership of the https://followgrandmadiving.travel.blog site to the followgrandmadiving account as explained at https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

2. Log out of clairewalmsleydiver and log in as followgrandmadiving. Then you’ll be able to change the site’s address to followgrandmadiving.wordpress.com

If you don’t own the followgrandmadiving account, then there’s no way for you to use that particular WordPress.com address.

…. ah, I see. Gotcha now.

I didn’t realise a .travel.blog URL and a .wordpress.com URL with the same suffix could belong to two different users. Thank you for putting me straight.
