Change url / domain

  • Unknown's avatar

I would like to change the url address/domain name.
By searching I have found a recipe,
but I cannot find anywhere “edit domain”
on My site. It’s not a critical thing, but as the site/blog is in Norwegian for Norwegians it would be better if the blog address/domain could be something in – yes – Norwegian!

    Any suggestions?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Are you speaking of your custom domain, workcollections.com?

Custom domains are registered for a year at a time, and cannot be edited once they are past the refund period. If you want to change that domain the only way is to register a different domain at My Site ->Domains ->Add.

it would be better if the blog address/domain could be something in – yes – Norwegian

Note that we don’t support internationalized domain names on WordPress.com. In other words, you cannot use a domain name with special Norwegian characters here, only the regular Latin alphabet, numbers and hyphens.

Hi – thanks for getting back to me.
I know of course I can’t go with our “custom” letters.
I’m on a premium plan, just paid for another year.
What is the procedure if I “Add” a domain; move the blog as is? Cost?

  • You don’t need to move anything to add another domain. Go to My Site ->Domains ->Add and register the new domain. If you select it as the primary domain, your site will load at the new domain instead of the old one, but the old one will also still work – we redirect it automatically. Nothing at all will change on your site itself.

The cost depends on what domain you register. .com domains are $18 a year, or $26 a year with private registration. Other domains can be more expensive. You can find more information on registering a new domain here:

    Thanks again!
I think I have been doing things right, but for some reason I don’t
receive the mail where to verify my mail address………
Payment went through, so I wonder how many times I should ask for “send again”.

OK – I finally got the mail!
    Thank you for helping out!

  • There can sometimes be a short delay on the verification email. I can confirm the two new domains are verified and active in your account.

Please let me know if I can help with anything else.
