change username

I cannot change my username it says: Sorry, that site already exists!
I first created a blog called seismolog and hence my username seismolog.
With the same login (seismolog) I created a second blog called seismoblog. I would only like to keep seismoblog and hence I removed seismolog.
When trying to also change the username to seismoblog it says that site already exists.
Well the site exists and I own it. Can I have the username reflecting my blog name please?Thank you

Blog names are the same as usernames for the most part. Usernames can be turned into blog names, but blog names cannot be turned into usernames.

Thank you for your reply. Is there a plan to allow a change for such a situation? What if someone would want to have the username and blog name as seismolog? This would hinder that person from having the name

When we register a username account the matching blog is reserved for our future use. It cannot be obtained by anyone other than the person who has registered the matching username account.
Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.

Welcome. I understand the seriousness of the terms and conditions. Perhaps in the future WP administrators can consider that usernames can be changed to reflect blog names. I see low or no risk of identity theft since it is the same owner requesting it. Deleted blog URLs can still remain unrecycled but linked to the new username (same owner).

Hi Matthew – We reserve usernames matching existing URLs for the owners of those URLs and vice versa. But since you are the owner of that URL, I can create that username for you and move the blog to it. Can you please confirm that you’d like me to create account seismoblog and move http://seismoblog.wordpress.com/ to it?

Just a note that I could still log in as seismolog too.One final request. Is it possible that this discussion is erased from the forum? It might show up in search engines and could be confusing about the blog name. thanks

Hi there – If you log in with the username seismolog, it will still work, since I just changed the email address on file for that account to something invalid. You can just ignore it, though, because there’s no information in it. Or if you want to continue using that account for any reason, I can change it to another email address that you can access.
We don’t delete forum threads, since they can help other users with the same problem.
