I looked into your Help suggestions for how to change your account username (not the public display one, but the actual username. It instructs you to select Account Setting
s, and click an option next to the username to change it. It also indicates some Account Options menu, but neither the change username option nor the Account Options links appeared when I went to enter my account. Please help! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Sorry for the confusion! Our team made some updates to the username change process, and that support page hasn’t been updated to reflect those changes yet.
You can change your username from your account settings page. On that page, under Username, you can enter the new username you want to use. Then, you can follow the on-screen instructions to finish making that change.
Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

Thank you so much for your response! I went back in today to change the username and this time it gave me the option. However, now when I enter my new username, it keeps insisting that I provide a valid email address, but if I replace the username with the @wordpress.com extension it gives me a warning about using characters other than a-z and numbers. It also won’t allow me to save changes at the moment, only cancel.

@ is only for email addresses. It cannot appear in any blog URL or in any username account.

Your username cannot be an email address. Usernames can only contain lowercase letters and numbers.
But your account does also need a valid email address in addition to its username. The email warning would be a separate issue from your username.
It also won’t allow me to save changes at the moment, only cancel
If the settings are not valid, the save account settings will be grayed out and you’ll only be allowed to cancel. You’ll need to type in a valid username, using only letters and numbers, for the save option to be allowed.
