Change username back

  hello! I recently changed my @username from what I had it at for over 10+ years, but I changed my mind and would like to change it back. The system is telling me this isn’t possible. I’m hoping that since I had this @username for 10+ years, that someone in tech support might be able to override this manually. Sorry for the hassle! And thank you for anything you can do!!

  Hi there, are you referring to your current WordPress.com username jamessimmerso? As noted in the Change Username guide, changing a username does make the previous username unavailable for you or anyone else:

  Yes indeed, unfortunately (for me)! I’m hoping there’s someone with magic hands in IT that can change the DB manually! I messed up changing my username, and I am genuinely sorry for the trouble. I know this should have been carefully considered on my part, and I goofed. I’m just wondering if it is possible for a guru in IT to work some magic. I love WP, and use it all the time in my projects. I’ve got two WP projects in development right now!

  Once you change your username to a new one it’s not possible to change it back to the old one. Even staff is not able to do this for you, the change is final.

  However, as a workaround you may want to change your public display name to your old username instead. To explain, your username is mostly private. You use it to log in, and it is also displayed next to your question in our support forums, but that is about it.

  Your public display name is what is shown on the author byline on your blog posts, comments you make on your blog, as well as comments you make on other WordPress.com blogs.
