Change website name: URL fields not showing
-
Hi everyone!
I’d like to change the name of my website (from http://www.hitchhikeheart.org to waverockmedia.com).
When I log into my wp-admin to change the URL of my domain, the fields “WordPress Adress (URL)” and “Site Adress (URL)” are not showing.
All I can see is “Site Title”, “Tagline” and then “Timezone”.
When I click onto
MySite > Settingsthe site adress shows but is greyed out.
My website, despite having .org in the name, is a wordpress.com hosted site which I am paying for since February 2016.
What am I missing?
Thanks so much in advance for any help!

A domain is something you own for a one year period, and can’t be exchanged or switched out mid-year. What you’ll actually want to do is go through the process of buying the new domain for your site, then set that one to the primary address. You can cancel the old one or keep both, to ensure the old traffic goes to the new site.
Here’s how to add a domain: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/#instructions-for-registering-a-new-domain
Here’s how to select that as the primary domain for the site:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#setting-the-primary-domainDoes that all make sense as explained?

Hi darciemg,
thank you so much for the quick reply. Yes, you are making a lot of sense!
Just to be clear: are instructions like
adressing owners of wordpress.ORG domains?
-
That direction is for a WordPress.ORG site, not here. The instruction is not the same.
Since you have a plan, you can also make contact with staff if you need help with this.

Yup, I see.
I have in the meantime heard back from the wordpress staff as well and slowly I am starting to see a way through the maze of information.
Thanks so much again for your help! This topic can be closed.
