Change website title?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’m just starting.
My page displays with ‘Latitude Media’ and I want it to display with ‘Lisa Mighton’ yet there’s a lock symbol beside it and I can’t figure out how to change that.
I’ve searched Support and the Forums.
    Help?

  • You can change your WordPress.com site’s title on this page: https://wordpress.com/settings/general

You should see a section called Site Title. You can edit your WordPress.com site’s name here.

yet there’s a lock symbol beside it and I can’t figure out how to change that.

That’s strange. This should not be the case. Can you upload a screenshot of that to a image hosting site like imgur and share that screenshot with us here? That should help us debug this further.

I hope this helps. Feel free to get back if you have questions and I will be keen on helping you through it!

Wow thank you for your willingness to help!

Another question – at the new site lisamighton.wordpress.com I would like my About page to be the homepage, and for now not to have a blog post. Possible?

Also, I would like people who go to http://www.lisamighton.ca to be redirected here. Can I do that from the WordPress end of things?

Also, back to the ‘site title’ question.

I was able to change it from ‘Latitude Media’ to ‘Lisa Mighton’ from your guidance.
Yet here, in the backscene [not live page], it still shows Latitude Media. How come? As I have a separate http://www.lmighton.wordpress.com page, it is likely to confuse me. I’d like it where it says Latitude Media in this screenshot https://imgur.com/X77bJ0S
    to say Lisa Mighton?

  • No problem! Happy to help! :)

Another question – at the new site lisamighton.wordpress.com I would like my About page to be the homepage, and for now not to have a blog post. Possible?

From what I see on https://lisamighton.wordpress.com/, it does not have the About page on the website, and has no blog posts either. That’s why it says “Nothing Found. It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching can help.”

Also, I would like people who go to http://www.lisamighton.ca to be redirected here. Can I do that from the WordPress end of things?

From when want to redirect http://www.lisamighton.ca to your WordPress.com site https://lisamighton.wordpress.com/, you will contact your domain registrar to setup a redirection from your custom domain to your WordPress.com site.

Thanks for sharing the screenshot. Have you tried refreshing your browser to see if it helps? Let me know.

    Hi

That’s very odd? I’m able to see the About page with content:
    https://imgur.com/a/yPaCY

This also shows that I updated the About page?
    https://imgur.com/a/lKZB8

    Confused Lisa

  • Thanks for clarifying!

I got your point. I see your About page. It is published and live on your WordPress.com site at https://lisamighton.wordpress.com/about

But, it’s not showing up on the homepage because you haven’t added it to a Menu or Widget yet. You can learn what Custom Menus are, what Widgets are here https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ and here https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/

I hope this helps. Feel free to get back if you have questions and I will be keen on helping you through it!

    Hi

Thanks, per your guidance I added About as a menu item and now see it. I also added a bit on a blog page since it seems like I must have something there. I can’t find a way to just auto-direct the lisamighton wordpress site’s homepage to my About page?

    Other questions…

My headline font (currently: ‘Cool jobs at a fascinating intersection’ is massive [and also I don’t like where the line breaks?]. Can I make it much smaller? I can’t seem to figure out how?

I wrote a Contact page with a contact form, at some stage, but now cannot find it. If I’m to begin again, I see how to add a new page, but not how to make it a Contact page with the form, direct it to my email address, etc.? [I did search this in the forums but couldn’t find any relevant response]

    Thank you

    Lisa

    Followup:
I figured out how to create a Contact page, and hopefully it is now linked as a menu page.
I figured out how to change my blog headline, but it seems to be linked to changing my blog title [‘Lisa Mighton’] headline. I’d like to increase the size of ‘Lisa Mighton’, and decrease the size of the blog post headline. Not possible?
I’m still stuck on this one: ‘ I can’t find a way to just auto-direct the lisamighton wordpress site’s homepage to my About page?’
I’ll also post this question in the main forums so it is not all on you to respond!

    Hey there,
I managed to track down this thread for you. I see that ‘strikebuys’ has been a big help to most of your issues. I do see one question that you were looking for help with though,
” I’d like to increase the size of ‘Lisa Mighton’, and decrease the size of the blog post headline. Not possible?”

The font size is a styling characteristic and can only be changed by inserting some custom css into the page. However, custom css is only available with an upgraded subscription plan to either ‘Premium’ or ‘Business’. You can read about the different plans here,
    https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Alternatively, each theme has its own unique style and you may find you like sizing and layout of a different theme better. You can read how to change themes here,
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/

You can use the ‘preview theme’ so you can check things out without committing to the change unless you really like it.

And finally, if you really like your current theme and do not wish to upgrade your subscription at this time, you will, unfortunately, have to be happy with the font size the way it is.

I am sure you will weigh the pros and cons and make the decision that is best for you ;-)

    Good Luck!

    Hi there again!
I think I may have misunderstood which part of things you actually wanted to change. Although my above speel may have been applicable to most of your site’s content, you actually should be able to change the font size of ‘Lisa Mighton’ by going into ‘fonts’ in the customizer. If you change the default font, it will also give you an option to change its size.
    Have an awesome day!
Write back if you need further assistance :)

    Hi
When I try to change the font size of ‘Lisa Mighton’ it also changes the font size of ‘About’ [and makes the latter ginormous]. And when I try to change default font, same thing. Seems to be kind of a downside of the theme? I can’t imagine why anyone would want them locked together?
