change writer name on business site only (leave personal blog alone)

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a blog https://gratuitousblahg.wordpress.com/ and a business site I created that WordPress hosts http://wehearyou.net/.

I noticed recently that posts come up on the business site as written by ‘oinsketta’ which is unfortunate, unprofessional and bad.

I want to change the display name on the business site, without changing the one on the blog. How can I do this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you have both sites in the same account, it’s not possible to change your display name on one without changing on the other. You could create a new WordPress.com account just for your business site, and transfer the ownership of the business site to the new account.

If you log out of your WordPress.com account and then click the link below you can create a new user account without creating a new site.

Once you have the second account you can transfer one of your sites to it by following these instructions.

Let me know if you have questions about that!

    Liz:

thanks so much for this advice. Been taking a little computer holiday, but I will try the procedure you describe when I get back to business on Tuesday.

    Thanks again,

    Hmmmm…

Trying to set up new account for wehearyou.net, but since I had a website called wehearyoudotnet on WordPress, under the email address (email visible only to moderators and staff), it’s not letting me use that, or wehearyou as the user name…. I get a message that the names are already in use.

The obvious workaround is to think up a new user name — I’d prefer to use one of the above.

Is there any way to use one of the names I’ve already used on WordPress?

Does the username wehearyou belong to you? Can you still access that account? If so we can skip the “create a new account” part and just move wehearyou.net to that account.

If you don’t have access to that account, a new username is the only option.

Not sure if I set up that account or not, though most likely I did. I searched through old emails for log-in info, which I usually email to myself. This was as close as I could find.

    Dear user,

You recently requested to have the email address on your account changed.
If this is correct, please click on the following link to change it:

You can safely ignore and delete this email if you do not want to

There was another asking about changing the administrator. This was in Dec. 2012.

Is there any way to verify whether an account exists on the WordPress end?

I’m afraid that doesn’t help. If the account belongs to you, I recommend you log out of your current account, and try to log in using wehearyou as the username. Then click the “lost password” link. If the lost password email comes to one of your email addresses, great! If not, you’ll need to pick a different username to use with your other account.

OK, thanks, I will try that simple and excellent advice and let you know how it turns out.

I wasn’t able to log in with the business email address using wehearyou as the user name. Apparently I never set up a site under another user name.

One of the beta versions of the wehearyou.net site, under my account, is called wehearyoudot.net.wordpress.com.

If I change the name of that site do you suppose WordPress would allow me to use wehearyoudotnet as my user name? It is currently tellling me the user name is unavailable.

Sorry to appear so obtuse, I’m really at a loss for another user name to have as the author of posts on the wehearyou.net website.

    Thanks

I can’t give you accesss to a username that is unavailable, but you don’t have to display the username you choose. Once the new account is set up you can change your display name to be whatever you choose. Does that make picking a username a little easier?

  • Unknown's avatar

So I can choose a random user name when I set up the account (that I’ll remember, obviously) and then make the display name whatever I want it to be? If so, that does make it much easier.

That’s right. Whatever you put in the “Public Display Name” on the page linked below is the name that will be displayed when you post or comment.

    Good to know, thanks.
