Changed blog URL, and now all images are broken
-
I changed our blog URL using the “Change Blog Address) tool from the WP admin page, from kinaandandersaroundtheworld.wordpress.com to kinaandandersoutofoffice.wordpress.com (to match the new blog title). Now all images in the existing blog posts are broken.
After doing the URL change, I can see both the new and old domain since I chose to keep the old one. I set the old one to “hidden”, since I don’t want to use it more. I’m not sure if this caused the problem, but I changed it back later without any change.
All posts and media have been transferred properly to the new domain, and the only thing that I had to redo was adding another Administrator user.
The image URLs in the posts still point to the old domain, but they don’t display properly (“broken image icon”), and if I paste them into a browser I get a 404 error. If i manually change the image URL to match the new domain, they work fine.
If I try to re-add the images from the media library to a post, it still uses the old image URL, and they become broken.
Is this expected behaviour, and are there any good (easy) solutions to getting my images back?
Thanks in advance!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, setting the old one to hidden or private will cause this. You’ll have to change that.

Ok, about 10 seconds after posting this I kept checking, and suddenly started seeing the image URLs pointing to the new domain instead of the old one, and the images displaying fine.
Now that I’m testing again using Firefox instead of Chrome (to make sure nothing old is cached), I’m getting the old (broken) image URLs again. I’m confused. :)
Thanks for the tip about un-hiding the old domain. I’ve done it about 30-40 minutes ago, but it hasn’t changed anything.

That’s odd. Perhaps the whole thing just takes time to transfer over. Leave it overnight and see what happens.

Thanks, will do. I also realised that I can do a pretty simple search/replace in the text mode editor of each post, replacing the old URLs with the new ones. We’ll see if it solves itself, or if I need to fix them all manually.

Update: Now (around 10 hours later), it seems the rest of the blog posts have had their image URLs updated properly to point to the new blog URL/domain.
I guess we just need to be (very) patient when performing a “Change Blog Address”, or perhaps not fiddle with the “hide” setting after a change.
