Changed DNS to Bluehost via GoDaddy, now blog is missing
-
Hello all, I tried to use a plugin and custom theme with my WordPress.com blog only to learn you need to be self-hosted before this is possible. I already had Bluehost as my host and my domain is registered with GoDaddy, so I went ahead and changed the DNS in my GoDaddy account to ns1.bluehost.com and ns1.bluehost.com.
I realise it can take up to 2 days for the DNS to propgate, but is it normal for the site to go down in between? I thought the site would have remained up using the old cache until the new one takes over.
If it is normal, is there any way to speed up the process?
Regards
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Means:
The site you are asking about does not seem to be hosted on WordPress.COM so you need to make friends over at WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using.
This site is for support of sites hosted on WordPress.COM. You should address your questions to WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using: http://wordpress.org/support/

auxclass, thanks for the quick reply.
Firstly, I log in via WordPress.com and that is where the original blog was hosted. Our domain originally was http://soulbaserecords.wordpress.com
Once we registered the blog, we registered the domain with GoDaddy and mapped it to WordPress.com. Then we bought hosting with Bluehost. Now, as far as we know, we need to have our URL load the WordPress site which is hosted on Bluehost. For that, we changed the DNS settings in GoDaddy to those listed above.
I hope that it is more clear, although I am still learning so may have just confused you a great deal.

Is the problem that we are not using WordPress.ORG software hosted on our own server? I thought you could just change the DNS for a WordPress.COM blog and all would be well.

You need to use your WordPress.ORG software installed on Blue Host – you can’t get from your WordPress.COM site to your new site (http://www.soulbaserecords.co.uk/ ) which is being sent to Blue Host – so something is not set up correctly at Blue Host – does Blue Host need a zone record added for your domain? Is your site set up correctly at Blue Host and the WordPress.ORG software installed at Blue Host?
You should also be making friends over at WordPress.ORG as that is where your new site will be supported.
You might also make friends with the Blue Host help people and ask if your hosting account is set up correctly.
