Changed my custom domain to the free address.wpgcomstaging.com.

    Hello,

Recently, our URL changed from this: https://mcgill-guide.ca/

    to this: https://legalciteguide.wpcomstaging.com/

I used to have a business plan and I understand that you may not get the exact same free URL if you download plugins. I’ve read on other threads that if you bought a custom domain (which I did) then you can use that to appear in the browser. In other threads, staff said to go to My Site ->Manage ->Domains and set that domain as primary. I can’t find “Manage” under the “My Site” tab.

Under Upgrades -> Domains if I click on my custom URL it says: “mcgill-guide.ca = active”
Under Upgrades -> Domains it says: “Your free WordPress.com address is legalciteguide.wpcomstaging.com [Primary site address]”
If I search for my own domain it says “This domain is already mapped to a WordPress.com site.”

Not sure what other options I have.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi! The main issue is that you’ve got a site with outside plugins or themes, but it doesn’t have a Business Plan currently – that seems to have been removed.

If you’ll re-add the plan, you’ll be able to map the domain properly.

If you want to downgrade the site, we can help with that. Custom themes and plugins, and sometimes the content and options added through them, will be lost. The site will not look the same and may well be returned to the state it was before you added the theme or plugins. Given that, let us know if you’d like to proceed with a downgrade anyhow. You’d be able to add a different plan and the domain after that.
