Changed site url address – having trouble

  • Unknown's avatar

Hey WordPress! So my site used a custom domain from Google Domains, hosted on a friend’s DNS server. That part has always worked fine. Recently I had wanted to change my website from one name to another. I own both domains at the moment. When my friend updated the DNS server so that my new website url would work with WordPress, the address bar still listed the previous url.

For example, my site had been crownanchorcomic.com. I wanted to change it to racicot.art. But when I go to racicot.art it always redirected to crownanchorcomic.com, which I didn’t want. I want all slugs and the address bar to be racicot.art.

I went so far as to change the site and wordpress URLs to the new site, as well as updated the php file with the new address names. But that doesn’t seem to work cause now I can’t log in, and I have an error 500. No helpful sites seem to solve my problem, my friend doesn’t know much about wordpress, the tutorials are outdated, or I just don’t have the capacity or correct files in my FTP to make things work. I am beyond frustrated. Is there any way you can help me? This has taken so much more of my time than ever intended, and I just flat out need help. Any advice you can give, or any info you need, I’m happy to oblige.

    Hi, @alairebowen
Your site is not hosted here, on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress.org software at another hosting provider.

For general help with the version of WordPress you’re using, you can ask the WordPress.org community over at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

The other option: you can ask the support of your hosting,

You can read more about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com here:

    Cheers.
