Changed the reader but on Blogs page, blog still appears as private.

  I initially set my blog on private status by going to settings-reading but now that I’ve selected the option of allowing search engines to index but on the My Blog page, the icon still appears as private.

  So what I’m asking is whether it takes a while to update to public or if I am doing something wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  The page’s cache just needed to be cleared. I just checked and it was public and the padlock icon as disappeared.
