changed theme, lost sidebar and content
-
I changed my theme from Quintus to try another theme or two, when I changed back to Quintus, I lost my sidebar and all the info. on it.
Why does this happend and how can I get it back?
Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you go to dashboard—>appearance—>widgets then you should see two sections of widgets:
active widgets
inactive widgets
Go to the inactive widgets section and drag the widgets you want into your sidebar.
Save.It happened because the themes you tried had a very different sidebar structure from Quintus, so the software couldn’t re-place your widgets.

Thanks for speedy reply. Unfortunately, there are no widgets showing in the inactive section.
What I did was change from Quintus to Bouquet and it kept the sidebar and the content.
Then I wanted to switch back, so I went to 2010 and activated that, (mistakenly thinking it was the one i wanted) and it kept all content.
Then I switched back to Quintus and got all the custom header and background back, but no sidebar. I played around a bit switching and managed to get the sidebar back, but all content was still missing.
All a bit annoying if I can’t get back the content as I can’t remember it now. I should have backed up – but I didn’t think it would mess up as I’ve changed themes before and it was alright.
How does one back up?

Well thank you! Yes, that is my page. Somehow the sidebar and content are now back…. !?!
Thank you for the back-up information.
You have been very helpful indeed. Many Blessings!

Hmmm – now I’m confused – the content shows in that snapshot but not when I go into the site…

@beinglynnpaterson – the Google cache holds ‘snapshots’ of webpages from the past. So it’s there for you to view, but isn’t in your blog anymore. Presumably 1tess gave you the link to it as you said you couldn’t remember the content from before!
Everytime you change a theme, you lose the widgets and sidebars/footers, etc, and have to replace them. They should (but in my experience aren’t always) be in the inactive widgets area. The best thing to do (apart from the backup that 1tess suggested) is type your content into a text file on your computer and make a note of which widgets it’s in, and hang on to all that. Then if you need to put it back into widgets in a new theme, you won’t have to rely on your memory.
An alternative is to take a screenshot of your widgets in situ on the home page and save the image file to your computer, before changing themes. Then you can see at a glance what you had.

From the cached version of your site you should be able to re-build your widgets. On FireFox, use view source (other browsers have similar features) . Then use the browser’s “Find” feature to locate the code you need to copy. The name of the widget or a picture in the widget, for example. This works for text widgets perfectly. For the others which use shortcode, not so well.
BTW, yes absurdoldbird is right, saving info for widgets, header links, and other things in a plain text file is a good idea.
But I must say that it is not very common anymore to lose widgets when changing themes: my test blogs change themes all the time w/o lose. I don’t know why you lost yours. So sorry to hear about that.

Thank you ~ I managed to re-build it from the screen shot you got. Took a while but it’s more or less the same.

Great! btw, it is not a screenshot but a cached version of your blog. Google in action as a helpful tool!
Happy blogging…
