changed URL and google
-
HI
I have just changed my blog URL. However, it hasn’t appeared on google yet. It has been one week.
Am I being a little impatient? Should I just wait a little longer?
I could have gone the “site redirect” option but I decided I had time for google to pick up the new URL.
Actually I do have time for this…I just want to make sure that this is usual procedure.
ThanksThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there,
When one “changes a blog URL” without purchasing a site redirect all links are broken. The links to all indexed posts and pages in the original blog will produce 404 (page not found) when clicked. It will take about 3 – 6 months for Google to clear those borken links when they flush their caches.6. The final option presented on this screen allows you to discard your current address. This option will permanently disable the address and you will not be able to reuse it. Only select this option if you are sure you will not use the address again. If you want to redirect traffic to the new blog, you can keep the address and purchase the Site Redirect upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/#instructions-for-changing-your-blog-address

As you did not purchase a site redirect, your content at the new URL that was indexed under the original links must now be indexed again by search engines under the new URLs. This will take time to happen. It will take 3 – 6 months time and any authority, backlinks and page rank earned by the content under the original URLs is not transferable. The content under the new URLs starts from zero with Google and the other search engines.

Thanks for your reply Timethief. I didn’t think it would take that long. However, I do have a brilliant idea. I will use my other blog to link to this ungoogled blog. This will be fine in the short term.
Many thanks to you for popping in and replying.
