Changed user name, but get message stating user name is already in use.
-
A while back, I attempted to change my user name from “thewildwomanwithin” to “wildonewithin” to match the name of my blog, but I must have made an error because, by the time I was finished, I simply got a message that the user name “wildonewithin” was already in use. I created it, but now I can’t use it. Is there some way I can still get that user name? Many thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You did nothing wrong. That username has belonged to someone else since December 2012 https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/wildonewithin

Yes, that is when I attempted to change my username. I changed my blog name at that time, and then tried to change my username, but it disappeared. I’m just wondering if I can retrieve it somehow. Thanks!

After a year and a half you decide you want the name? I’m skeptical anything can be done at this point, but I flagged it for staff, who will probably ask you a bunch of questions to ascertain whether or not it was you who created the username.

I’ve always wanted it, I just figured it had disappeared forever since I obviously went about changing it incorrectly. I just thought I’d ask. Thank you for your kindness, raincoaster.

Hi Em,
If that username is associated with an email address which you have access to you may be able to regain access to it through the Lost Password form:
http://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
And if that doesn’t work through the account retrieval process which is linked to from there.
I’m not going to lie however, if the account is that old and was never confirmed as being active, there may not be anything which we can do. There’s no reason not to try though!
